I'm actually really grossed out, again, in realizing that most retailers in Europe offer the Dragon age inquisition physical deluxe edition, except of course for PC.

Good god, the even have it for PS3 and Xbox 360.

If they had the mage hat in that mix I would buy without hesitation.

I too have bought every Bioware game since they were founded (I still *feel* like a kid, though... does that count?), and I'm a big fan. I just don't like EA. And the only way to make them even notice us and think about this whole thing twice, is if it hurts them business-wise... in other words, if this results in a large group of people not buying the game at all. If you instead buy the deluxe edition or standard edition (possibly elsewhere), then it still counts as a sale... EA wins.

So yes, even though it pains me, this will be the first Bioware game that I'm boycotting... for the time being.

While I can't claim to have purchased every BioWare game I've certainly been a long time fan/player of their games! I started with Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast somewhere in late 1999 and followed that with Baldur's Gate II SoA Collector's Edition, BGII ToB, NeverWinter Nights Collector's Edition (plus both expansions and the KingMaker special release), Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire Special Edition, Mass Effect, Dragon Age Origins Collector's Edition, Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition, Dragon Age Origins - Awakening, Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition, Star Wars The Old Republic Collector's Edition (plus Rise of the Hutt Cartel which I purchased prior to SWTOR's transition to Free-to-Play), Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition as well as the Obsidian developed "sequels" NeverWinter Nights 2 (plus expansions) and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II.

I missed out on Shattered Steel and MDK2 as well as Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood and Mass Effect Galaxy, but despite missing out on those 4 games I think I can still claim to be a long time BioWare fan! ;)

As I already own a number of BioWare's Collector's Editions I'm very disappointed that not only am I unable to purchase the Dragon Age Inquisition Collector's Edition (due to GameStop) but I'm also unable to purchase the physical Deluxe Edition (due to EA)! :(

For now I've not made any sort of final decision as to what I'll do, but if I do decide to boycott BioWare and EA over this mess they will lose my custom for everything, including my SWTOR subscription which I've maintained ever since the game's release in 2011. While that will certainly be a difficult decision for me to make I do feel that this may well be the only way to make EA and BioWare take notice that this sort of treatment will result in lost revenue!

Indeed this is one of the things that's making this situation so hard for PC gamers throughout Europe to understand! Retailers in Europe and UK are selling the physical Deluxe Edition for all consoles (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One) and GameStop are selling the Collector's Editon for all consoles (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One) in Europe and UK! GameStop are apparently also selling the PC Collector's Editon in certain European countries!

It's just the PC gamers in Europe and UK that are being treated as second class and unworthy, in fact it feels like some sort of discrimination against European and UK PC gamers for some unknown reason!

Amazon charged me with 18$ taxes. Do you think that's it or do I have to pay twice?

18$ sounds like an expected amount, so I'd guess you're fine.

I agree. Like I said, though, depending on the labeling you may still have to go to customs yourself. Then you sometimes have to pay an import fee or something like that. You may want to try to go to customs and ask them directly what to expect. Then you can be sure and either change your order or be confident that it'll work out. :-)

Have you checked gamestop.com (US store)? They have a very extensive list of countries they'll ship to... (I have my Deluxe edition on order with them)

You may have to pay customs \ handling taxes etc when it arrives...

Huh. Now that is an option I hadn't yet tried or known about before. Thank you for pointing it out.

But what bothers me about it (and it is also the main reason why I decided against it), is the fact that this should not be the only viable option for me as a costumer to get the product that I want. Only yesterday I've stumbled upon a quote from Guillaume Rambourg (who is North Americas VP for GOG) about DRM practices in games that, at least in my opinion, also applies to this situation:

"Our industry should be cherishing and treating all gamers with respect, those people who pay our wages, servers, development projects, and what not. Instead, we just make it frustrating for them to buy games."

It sums up my feelings regarding this subject perfectly. It shouldn't be so hard and frustrating for a potential costumer to get access to the desired product. I just don't get this type of business practice that limits it's potential market, limits it's consumer base and sets up a problematic "atmosphere" that could potentially harm the product and the company...it's just seems so...despotic and un-free market like.

Sorry for this butchering of English language.

In the end I'll probably hold off on buying this game (at least for now), no matter how much I want to play it or how much I want to support the developers - because I think they are doing an amazing job and in the end they should have all the support possible.

But it's exactly this belief that makes this situation all the more frustrating for me and turns me into a pile of whiny mess. I literally can not buy this game under this circumstances, because I would feel as if I'm betraying myself and my core principles. (Sometimes it can be self constructed cage, but better this than the alternative).

And it's also because of that, that I will buy it eventually (worst case scenario in a few years when it goes on sale) just not today and not like this.

But thank you again for the suggestion.

I'm sure someone else here will found this information very helpful. ;)

That is actually what is upsetting me the most: it is not just 'the whole world except for the US' that is getting screwed, but especially the European (I count UK as Europe too... they ARE part of the EU, after all) PC-gamers. Seriously... if you can provide the IE for consoles, you can also put the PC version in that very box!

Edit: What I mean is: it feels like it is really done on purpose... and they are frustrating us tremendously and divide the community instead of bringing it together... Why should it have to matter whether someone is based in the US or Europe (apart from getting the game a few days apart due to strange legislation?), plays on the console or pc and wants a digital version or a physical one? Treating people differently is always rubbing me the wrong way, as I strongly believe that someones preferences does not make him/her better or worse than someone else. It just creates variety and is as good as anything else.

This is purely speculation, but:

Maybe Gamestop Europe have recently decided that there is too little profit in PC game sales nowadays, and they're slowly turning into a console-only game company... they just haven't made any official announcements in that area yet.

This also means that they have no interest anymore in a physical deluxe edition for PC, and maybe they told EA this in an early stage, which caused EA to decide to not make the physical deluxe edition available in Europe at all...

That would actually be a very bad reason to screw up the PC gamers! And then it would not only be Gamestop, but also EA who is deliberately screwing up their customers.

I might even understand Gamestop's reasoning on this. What I really dislike about this is making the CEs exclusive to a particular retailer. EA is not the only one doing that, but they should really stop.

Thank god DAI CE isn't something that I want to have. I hate buying from Gamestop.

It was refreshing to see The Witcher 3's editions: no retails exclusive DLCs, no DLCs in general and the CE is not exclusive to any particular retailer. Also, it was nice to see that the only CE out of stock on Amazon.co.uk is the PC CE.

I agree with the fact that EA's decision is absolutely outrageous, but I won't boycott DAI if only for Bioware, because I doubt they had a say in this, and they don't deserve to be punished for something EA did. I will buy the game because I want Bioware to know I support them and care about the game, and because I think they deserve all the hard work they put in the game to be rewarded (in my opinion). However I most certainly agree that us European fans feel neglected and even rejected because of such things, as if we didn't matter, which sucks :(

With what CD Projekt Red is doing with The Witcher 3 they are starting down the same path as EA since they are offering exclusive bonuses from buying the game from their service, which does have limitations based on how good a person's internet is. At least with Dragon Age Inquisition I am curious to see if there will be an "upgrade" available like with Mass Effect 3 having an upgrade in Origin to the N7 edition and if that would become available to the console users as well.

I will boycot EA by not buying the Sims 4 :P Or any other EA games, for that matter

Someone mentioned Play-Asia, but sadly, when calculating import taxes to EU, I came up with rouglhy the same amount as with Amazon.com (and probably longer shipping time). So it seems that EU PC players are simply screwed, unless there will be some sort of Deluxe Upgrade pack on Origin, which would probably solve everything.

Didn't they say in the FAQ, that there will be an upgrade? At least for PC, because the CE outside of USA and Canada comes only with a Standard Editon.

As of boycott I don't think that it has any impact on EA. I doubt they will even recognise those 10 people that didn't buy the game. It won't change anything. And if they don't even sell those few Version that are available for PC, than they might get the impression, that they shouldn't offer ANY PC Versions in the future... I don't know what we can do to be heard by EA.

Note that while gog.com DOES offer pre-order incentives for TW3 (as does Steam), none of them affect the content that you get in the game (no exclusive in-game pre-order content, no bonus DLC, nothing of the kind). So no matter if you buy the standard edition or the CE, and no matter where you buy it, everyone gets the same content in the game. I consider that a BIG improvement over all the different in-game bonuses that publishers like EA and Ubisoft hand out.

For some people those bonuses are important even if they aren't part of the game, otherwise I don't think we would see as many people upset about the Inquisitor's Edition not being available in their area.  From the way I read the information its basically the Standard or Deluxe version of the game with a bunch of extra physical items that don't have any impact on the game.  It sounds like they are going to try to have a Standard to Deluxe upgrade available as well just like they did with Mass Effect 3 and its N7 edition, I just wonder if its going to be available for consoles this time.

I'm not a collector, so this stuff doesn't typically appeal to me. But I know some people that are. I share an office with two people who got googly eyes when they saw our own collector's edition. One guy bought the Titanfall one with the huge Titan statue.

So for me it's more of a product built for those people.

I have a question that may be beyond your area, but why are games becoming so expensive? It was not that long ago when full titles were ca. $20, and now that is the price for many DLC. I get that the world economy is not great, but even that does not seem to match the huge increase seen these past few years. Is the inclusion of these Shiny's part of that? Thanks!

It's a mixture of higher development costs and inflation.

Nah, by preordering from GoG you just get some digital content earlier, like the 4 tracks from the soundtrack. Buying the CE or the standard version gives you a code to register the game on GoG and then you'll get access to the digital bonuses. There are no DLCs to speak of, though. The digital bonuses are the soundtrack, the artwork, the behind the scenes videos and stuff like that.

I understand higher costs and inflation are a part of it, but this seems to be less than the apparent 300+% increases seen in new titles. Readily admit I am not into economics, but as a gamer now on a fixed income, it is somewhat startling; even a little depressing that our indv investments (eg; games, ISP, etc) have turned so far upwards that I may not be able to continue long on this path.

Of course, I have been anxious over this subject this entire starting century, but does not mean I have to like it. I quit going to films for this reason before my stroke, but now my options for entertainment are even more limited. And as an Ancient Gamer, something that started for me as PnP, dice, and imagination being turned into something with multiple books on Kits, ginormous system requirements, and constant FX upgrades is daunting and sad. IMO.

I think it is just natural progression. Technology improves, people expect more from their entertainment, much more "realistic" graphics, etc. Those things are progressively more difficult to create, meaning more people, better software, longer time it takes to create, and all that costs a lot of money. And cost of work increases as well, not just by inflation...
