Seriously, I don't see how making this exclusive to gamestop was the only way this CE would exist. As many people voice their displeasure at the way gamestop does business, why give them such a big exclusive? On top of that, could the announcement of the CE have been handled any worse? By the time people actually knew what was going on, it was too late.

Because Gamestop stocks the game on their shelves. If they don't get their way they can refuse to sell the game or other games belonging to the publisher/developer. This is what happens when you have oligopolies.

"oligopolies" in the america's you mean, outside the america's it is hardly available!!  Customers outside of that region don't count for anything and that it find offensive.
