Does anyone agree with me that the genophage was possibly over exagerated as the main threat to the Krogan? According to the WIKI, the pre invasion population of Tuchanka was around 6 billion or so.A population number that stretches the "endangered species" description a bit much IMO.

I think that the Krogan had other major strategic weaknesses, namely no strategic defence capability or ability to exert influence using a militarised fleet. Without these the Krogan are vulnerable to orbital strikes.

Also how were the vast numbers of Krogan transferred between Tuchanka and Palaven without the Reapers intervening? Palaven looked to be under a most effective siege situation prior to Tuchanka arc opening up. Not a serious issue for me compared with others, but I've not seen many discussions on "the Miracle of Palaven" and am curious to hear how others see this "issue"

This could have gone in the massive thread that is already discussing the genophage...

The genophage alone will stabilize the Krogan population, it will not cause extinction and it was never described as such. Extinction would come solely from an increased death rate, and the Krogan have a bad habit of pursuing life choices with high mortality anyways.

Possibly so, but I raised a new thread because I was hopin to discuss Krogan issues exempt from the genophage and raise points on the Krogan that I hadn't seen addressed. Namely their demilitarisation and lack of effective logistics and ability to defend their homeworld using strategic assets. like a capable fleet and the miraculous ability to transport sufficient numbers of Krogan to Palaven for them to be effective.

Just a note though, I never used the term Extinction. I dispute that the Krogan even qualify for the term endangered. 6 Billion is a big number of long lived individuals that have an astronomic fertility rate.

Ah good point, I misread the OP on that one. Yeah, I wouldn't qualify them as endangered at all. If events were to lead to a rapid decline in population, it would be difficult for them to rebound (with the genophage), but their population numbers in the tens of billions across the entire galaxy.

Please. There's already like 3 existing threads about the Genophage...

Whether or not the genophage can actually drive the krogan extinct is not the issue, but rather whether or not the krogan can sustain their population after prolonged conflict with anyone, be it themselves, the turians or the reapers.

Same way the pizza delivery guy gets around your locks and such: They were let in.

Tuckanka planet description says there were 2.1 billion Krogan there. Where did the 6 billion number come from?

Krogans live in the Demilitarized Zone, and Aralakh is Demilitarized. They have been stripped of war ships and such. Krogans had other species' fleets to come and extract them to Palaven.

I choose to think that the last census-takers who set foot on Tuchanka got fed to a thresher maw when they asked someone how many children were in the household.

The leading cause of death for a Krogan is via gunshot.
