It seems to me that in Bioware games most of our companions are single, whether or not we can romance them. That's cool; some people just stay single. It's just, why are all of them single? We got lots of widowers, a few divorcees, and plenty of options to set companions up with other people during the game, but hardly any of them start the game already married. I'd like it if one of our companions had a husband or wife back at the Keep, maybe working as a smith or something. They wouldn't even have to be a major character. I'd just like to see something different, is all.

(Seriously, I just tried to think of any married companions we've had in recent games and came up with maybe Sten, through an arranged marriage.)

I don't think the Qunari have marriage, just breeding programs.

In that case, I can't think of anyone else.

Baldurs Gate, Jaheira is married in the first game.  Baldurs Gate 2 he was killed due to the main villian's schemes of capturing and experimenting on MC.  Aveline's husband was killed due to fighting darkspawn, which alot of people dont survive anyways.

Carth Onasi was married too. Thane was married. Ser Jori was married. It all didn't end well. I think if you are a character in a BioWare game, you should avoid marriage. Marriage is a death sentence!

If you aren't single in a BioWare game, you'll probably die.

Depending on your playthrough, Aveline is married for Act 3 with Donnic and she is married when we first meet her until her husband dies.

Let's see... in Origins you have Oghren whose marriage comes to a swift end, but then doesn't he goes on to marry Felsi by the time Awakenings happens?

Alistair can become married depending on your Landsmeet choices.

In Awakenings you have the body of a married man as a companion  does that count?

Then in DA2 you have Aveline and Donnic, and I guess Varric is pretty much married to his crossbow.

I'm trying to think who was married and not a widower in Mass Effect  I can think of no one.

I guess it's easier to imagine someone following your character around all the time when they don't have other commitments. But I guess it could be more workable in DAI if they both were in the Keep.

They are lacking cause if they did have a true family to be with, that is where I would tell them to go back to, quit following me into a dangerous dungeon and make your wife/husband a widowed one. As well as children they may have, dont want them going fatherless/motherless.  Now if they get married like Aveline and Donnic, that is fine.

I think Shepard's spacefaring parent was widow/widower werent they?  Cant remember a mention of the other parent, then again its been at least one to two years minimum since I played ME1.

Plot twist: Cullen marries Scribbles.

Then they both are brutally murdered at the Red Lyrium Wedding. Along with all the guests.

You know the game probably starts with our future Inquisitor's honeymoon. It would explain why everybody around them dies.

P.S. Just remembered how I married Viconia in Baldur's Gate 2, and she was killed. Twice. And then in DAO my Tabris' wedding was ruined, and her groom was killed. Weddings are bad.

I DON'T THINK SO. My inquisitor is going to be all over that. I'll roundhouse kick scribbles in the face. :P

That might've been a little extreme, Commander.

With Mass effect none of the main character are currently married. Only npc's. The only married guy I can think of is that guy talking to that woman about his baby daughter in the barracks in ME2.

Not as fun as being a wedding-crasher in the 7 kingdoms.

Years from now we will meet Scribbles wandering around as a city guard and babblling, "I used to be a scribe girl... until I took a boot to the face."

They would be murdered by abominations, possessed by the spirits of GRRM's writing, not by my Inquisitor ;)

But seriously, I think it's just because BioWare writers write human relationships as stories, and "Falling in love" is a more exciting story than "Staying married", and that's why we don't get many happily married people in their games, especially among the followers, who would have to leave their families and go with us Maker knows where. Aveline was a pleasant exception. I mean her second marriage, of course  :D So technically it's possible, I suppose.

Well companions in da are usually toxic with perhaps few exceptions like alistair , wynne or aveline so well it leads rather to short-term relationships like isabela-fenris if that lead to relationship at all.Not mention that companions lead dangerous life and everyone is now focused on veil problem or other problems.Marriage is for peoples that want stabilize their life and relationship as far very little companions want such life and even less reached that.

We have 2 examples oghren and aveline.  Oghren wanted in the end stable life it didn't worked same for aveline.

I know he isn't a 'companion' but bodahn is married except you never hear of her after Origins.

Oghren was married to begin with...even though it was to a mad-woman and he ended up married again in the end, also stated before Aveline ends up married.

In Baldur's Gate Jaheira was married until that poor excuse for a mage killed him and clearly Minsc is far too attached to Boo :) Gotta love Minsc and Boo though.

I can't think of anyone in Mass Effect, KOTOR or Jade Empire and I didn't play that much of Neverwinter nights to get the characters. Although I know she isn't a companion that the stage but the Paladin who directs you (Can't remember her name) she is taken for some part of the game.
