This is another continuation of The Worst Possible Playthrough thread I started four years ago. Now that I have a small amount of free time before I lose all of it again (perhaps permanently) on July 1st, I plan on playing through the complete trilogy with both my Paragon "everyone survives" Shepard and my Renegade "everyone dies" Shepard.

Since Mass Effect is effectively a character drama set in space, I figured it would be better to focus on the bad endings of the characters. It is still possible to complete every mission in Mass Effect 1 and 2 and still get the worst character endings for Shepard's permanent squadmates and most of the Normandy crew. However, I have yet to figure out whether it is possible to obtain the low EMS Destroy ending while completing all the main, side, and DLC missions in Mass Effect 3.

I chose to keep Legion, Samara and Tali in Mass Effect 2 as their NPC replacements (Geth VI, Raan, Falere) still die as a result of Shepard's choices. Javik technically dies after the storyline of Mass Effect 3 because of his exposure to the Echo Shard.

-----------------
During Mass Effect 1:
-----------------
-Slay Wrex on Virmire

-----------------
During Mass Effect 2:
-----------------
Loyal: Jack, Jacob, Grunt, Garrus, Mordin, Legion, Thane, Kasumi, Samara, Tali
Non-loyal: Miranda, Zaeed
Normandy Upgrades: None
Chakwas & Crew: Not saved
Collector Base: Destroyed (otherwise, Destroy cannot be chosen with very poor EMS)

Before the Omega-4 Relay:
-Do several missions after the crew is abducted (Kelly Chambers dies)
-Do NOT gain Zaeed's loyalty (Save refinery workers, no Paragon persuade)
-Side with Samara for her loyalty
-Side with Jack during the Miranda/Jack fight
-Keep both Legion's and Tali's loyalties

After the Omega-4 Relay:
-Do NOT bring Kasumi to the Oculus fight
-Do NOT send an escort for Chakwas & Crew

Collector Base Assignments:
Vents - Jacob (dies)
Fire Team Leader - Any
Biotic - Miranda (bring Garrus and Tali, Garrus dies)
Second Fire Team Leader - Grunt (dies)
Final boss squadmates - Miranda and Zaeed (both die)
Distraction Team - Samara, Legion, Tali, Mordin (Mordin dies)

Final Squadmates: Legion, Samara, Tali

-----------------
During Mass Effect 3:
-----------------
-Avoid talking to Steve Cortez (dies in London)
-Avoid talking to Ashley/Kaidan (dies on Citadel)
-Do NOT allow Diana Allers on board (dies on SSV Shasta)
-Recruit Javik, and have him look at the Echo shard (so he plans to die later on)
-Side with Legion on Rannoch, against Tali (both die on Rannoch)
-Do not Renegade interrupt the Oriana/Henry Lawson confrontation (both die on Horizon)

Priority: Earth:
-Bring James and Liara to London harbinger beam with EMS less than 2200 (both die in London)
-Choose Ending - Destroy (EDI, geth collective/Legion die)

-EMS - 1750-2200 (Devastates earth, allows Memorial Wall crash scene) OR
-EMS - Below 1750 (Devastates humanity, no Memorial Wall scene)

-----------------
Squadmate List:
-----------------
Urdnot Wrex - Killed and left behind on Virmire
Ashley Williams - Lost on Virmire
Morinth - Slain by Samara on Omega
Jack - Incinerated by Oculus laser beam
Kasumi Goto - Incinerated in the Normandy
Thane Krios - Impaled by a steel beam on the Normandy

Zaeed Massani - Crushed by debris (but not on the memorial wall?)
Mordin Solus - Killed holding the line
Kaidan Alenko - Lost in the Citadel attack
Samara - Suicide on Lesuss
Tali'Zorah vas Normandy - Suicide on Rannoch
Legion - Uploaded to geth collective and later eliminated
Liara T'Soni - Incinerated by Reaper laser beam on Earth
James Vega - Incinerated by Reaper laser beam on Earth
EDI - Eliminated as a synthetic when Reapers are destroyed
Nyreen Kandros - Sacrifices herself to save civilians
David Anderson - Shot on the Citadel by The Illusive Man
Javik - Suicide after Earth mission is completed
Aria T'Loak - Is Omega

-----------------
Normandy Crew List:

Kenneth Donnelly - Lost on the Collector Homeworld
Karin Chakwas - Lost on the Collector Homeworld
Steve Cortez - Shot down during London mission

Have you done a playthrough like this?

I think it could be much worse than that. If I were you, I'd kill someone in the Escort mission while only escorting Chakwas (if I have to choose between a potentially dangerous squadmate and an old doctor...I'd go for the doc).

Also, killing Samara and keeping Morinth post-suicide mission is simply a must. She never is found in ME3, except at the end, where she's not as friendly as she used to be :) As the second squadmate to be saved in ME2, I'd go for Jack, and then never do the Grissom Academy quest. She later suffers a similar fate than Morinth's.

That's my ideal doomsday playthought, IMO...

That's my goal. Normally, I would have included all the Renegade choices that Shepard makes, but I decided to focus on the squadmates and Normandy crew this time.

I used to have Zaeed die on his loyalty mission, but after finding out that he doesn't ever appear on the memorial wall, I decided to leave him behind in the incinerated Collector Base. I assume he'd find some way to survive his loyalty mission explosion but not the suicide mission (that is, unless he's still floating around in the galactic core vowing revenge on Shepard).

Wow Ecael, its been so long since I've seen you post, welcome back! As for killing all characters, I haven't tried this myself, as it is pretty grim, but I always enjoyed reading through your guides.

I just finished the trilogy for the first time, and most of the way through I had the thought of doing a "worst possible" run, making the worst decisions and getting everyone killed, but now I don't think I'd have the heart for it.  I don't even think I could stomach seeing someone else do it.

Have you really seen Zaeed's scene until the end? Nobody can survive an explosion like that :P

He's dead, I assure you.

I'm only here for a short time, however! It seems that the forum doesn't move anywhere near as fast as it used to (especially when the Character forum existed).

I don't mind the squadmates dying, but if space hamster was to die. my world would crumble around me. He's what keeps me going. ;)

However, I have yet to figure out whether it is possible to obtain the low EMS Destroy ending while completing all the main, side, and DLC missions in Mass Effect 3.

I did some work on this once. IIRC the minimum possible EMS with all DLCs and all actual missions completed (i.e., no scanning or fetch quests) is something like 1900. However, I believe getting that low would require Tali dying in ME2 and Wrex living until ME3 -- you want to get caught sabotaging the genophage, and you can screw up the quarian WA points more thanks to the Koris mission. But you're well under 2200 anyway.

Shepard survived something similar...

So after the Normandy's explosion, he was in a state decent enough to go back into action (or even merely survive), without the need of Project Lazarus, right?

Does that assume siding with the Quarians? I intended on siding with the Geth because the Destroy ending eliminates them.

I think the reason Zaeed does not make it onto the wall if you abandon him is because he's not someone you want to remember!

Yes. The advantage of siding with the quarians is that you can hurt their WA points by rescuing Koris' crew instead of him, and doing the Geth Fighter Squadron mission doesn't net you points for the Primes. But I believe there are few enough points to get away with siding with the geth.
