Ok in the some of the trailers the grey wardens are under attack. More specifically in the game play trailer by A. the inquisitor or B. some unknown human soldiers. Or at least it looks A LOT like the warden armour.

First off is it them? because I could be mistaken and Second why would this battle take place considering the story?

I know the wardens can go to extreme lengths in battle (look at Avernus in Warden's Keep) and sure they have their secrets...but that being said I can still not see a reason why the battle/siege would take place.

The Inquisition can use brute force if certain groups do not want to cooperate and there can be thousands of reasons why the Inquisition is attacking them beyond that.

The Wardens could be helping the big bad, supplying the Red Templars with lyrium, they might have stolen something that didn't belong to them, etc.

Lots of thing since DAO have pointed to the Wardens not being those greats heroes that the stories claim them to be.

Yes, it is the Grey Wardens.

As to why, there could possibly be a thousand reasons. It could be due to something as simple as the Inquisition and the Wardens fighting over the same piece of land or influence.

Well that was obvious after dao prologue however their main job was killing darkspawn nothing more outside rumors that we heard about first warden. My bet goes on Corry as he could control wardens even when he was trapped and unconscious.

Awakening was along the similar lines for origins even though the line of darkspawn = EVIL does seem the blur with the architect and the messenger.

I guess I miss a ton of evil warden examples what were they?

Remember, the Wardens in the Anderfels are not the same as the Warden (Player Character) and the other ones we encounter. According to Riordan the Wardens are the defacto rulers of the country. Not to mention with no Blight to combat, their significance will be reduced. Remember one of the main reasons why the First Warden was interested in Amaranthine is the idea of Wardens ruling lands and being more involved in politics. Of course officially the Wardens are an apolitical organisation but the events of Origins showed we had to get involved in order to ensure the treaties were obligated. Don't forget, the Wardens are a very secretive order, The Joining, The Calling, How to kill an Archdemon and Corypheus' prison some of the most notable examples of their secrets. Who knows what other secrets they have? After all they are one of the oldest organisations in Thedas and one that has been instrumental in saving the world from the Darkspawn.

It could be the actual Grey Wardens that we are attacking, but I am of the opinion that the wardens will be divided, possibly because of Corypheus or possibly because the First Warden is trying to seize control of the Anderfels or some other internal problem.

If it is the wardens as a whole and not some splinter group, then hopefully it is optional, as I would prefer to get their support(assuming they haven't all turned into a bunch of assholes).

I hope it;s because the Warden's aren't cooperating and not because their evil. I don't want to go to war with one of my favorite factions in the DA universe. Also, don't ****** of the Hero of Ferelden!

I think that the wardens is trying to expand and is becoming more of a threat to the Inquisition and at some point we will have to make a choice to become enemies with the warden order..

OR

In the begining of the game we are told that we where at a peace meting reflecting the outcome of the war that is raging across Thedas. What if the meting is taking place in a warden keep, since they are a neutral order and at some point it all went south... the Seekers and Wardens clash and the veil is torn. And that is where the game starts.

Sorry, but not enough effort to be convincing.

I'm hoping attacking the Wardens will be optional, and that they won't be portrayed as villains.

They are my favorite faction in Thedas.

convincing for what  they either bow down or become zombie slaves this is a dictatorship bow or die wardens.

Could be the wardens are possessed, or could be a red herring, a group pretending to be wardens to get people to listen to them but it turns out they're lying.

Could be you're helping the wardens take back their keep from some group.

I think it'd be more likely a group pretending to be the Inquisition attacking other factions.

You are not convincing enough to RP an evil character. Try harder.

My guess is that we're attacking a splinter group of Wardens that are under Cory's influence. Hopefully it's a "fight our way in to see if things can be worked out" and not a "kill them all" type situation, but it doesn't look to promising in the trailers.

Maybe the Inquisitor decided that they had the shiny loot and XP and needed it.

What?

Killing things for loot and XP is the only real reason we do anything in RPGs once you really get down to it.

This event may be connected with the events of DA2 Legacy, At the end the warden the Hawke sided with was possessed by the Magister Corypheus, who is shown to be able to manipulate peoples minds. It's not a big stretch to think that the battle may have something to do with His influencing the Wardens to His own means.
