The Archdemon gives me nightmares, but I hear that's 'working as intended' for being a Grey Warden.
I like it. ![]()

I think Duke Igthorn imagined the gummy bears, because living with nothing but stupid ogres for so long drove him mad.

I don't think any of the darkspawn are scary in of themselves. It's they way they're presented and the skillfully crafted atmospheres that bioware used to introduces these nightmares. The slow, creepy build up to both the initial broodmother and The Mother are what got my heart pounding - and close to stopping thanks to the jump scare with the latter. And although they're not even related to darkspawn at all I feel a special mention should go out to the harvesters, a perfect example of something made so much scarier by the anticipation. I'm so glad I played that DLC during the the day.
There is an exception: I think the normal gouls are the scariest part. It's those dead eyes. The way they talk. The way they walk. It's the knowledge that one wrong move (at least for non-grey wardens) and you'll share their fate. Another special mention here for the goul/shriek specific to the Dalish Elf origin. That one really tore me up, at once commanding my sympathies while simultaneously making me scream in the back of my mind 'Monster! Creepy! Kill it! Still talking! Stop!'
And I concur that bioware should make horror games, although I'm not sure if I'd be able to play them if that was their main focus. Between gouls, the harverster and Sofia Dryden, I already feel like I've been playing a horror game... repeatedly, in some masochistic fashion enforced by the sheer replayability of Bioware games... which would no doubt still compel me in an actual Bioware horror game... bringing me back over and over again to terrorise my soul.
It's a perfect formula, really.

If ghuls count, I'd vote for the tainted giant spiders.
Otherwise the children from Awakeing.

Broodmothers are incredibly disturbing, but to be honest, I'm most creeped out by ghouls.
Ghouls freak me out because they used to be normal people, but they have degenerated into this horrifying monsters. That's creepy to me. Like...I could become one.

Ehhh... None really. They give too much of an 'evil orcish horde' vibe for me to be actually scary. Or intimidating for that matter.

I always loved the ogres from Gummi Bears. They were adorable. Heh heh, "Dukey"...

Have we seen what Darkspawn will look like in Inquisition? I don't recall a screenshot containing them.

Don't quite me on that, but I think someone said they're trying to find a middle ground with them, while keeping their DA 2 looks.

First day, they come and catch everyone.Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat.Third day, the men are all gnawed on again.Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate.Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn.Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams.Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew.Eighth day, we hated as she is violated.Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin.Now she does feast, as she's become the beast.
This so much. That entire part is just horrifying but SO brilliant. So well done.
Ash Wraiths are my worst nightmare but they aren't DS

Hurlocks, on the other hand, have a diseased skin and brutal demeanor that is more likely to haunt my nightmares. Meh, I've seen too much creepy stuff at this point that the scare factor's desensitized.

Having a fear of clowns is very rational. it been proven by a study, that i just made up, that 90% of clowns are really demons in disguise .
It is very rational, with any kind of mask/painted on face, you can't see what's under that, you can't read it, it's a psychological head****. I think clowns trigger some deep primal response in people which is very very common.

Ogres would be the most likely to kill you in a One-On-One, so they have that going for them.
Ogres used to get my adreneline pumping back when they were difficult but DA2 took this away. In DA2, when I see an Ogre accross the field, I have the rest of my party go attack something else and purposefully take it head-on myself for the satisfaction, dampened by the fact that I know I'm going to win. If they could still grab, I'd probably respect them more.

I think I've watched the Alien trilogy one time too often, I don't find the Darkspawn (including the children and Broodmothers) even remotely scary. In fact, nothing in the dragon age series is scary.
What gave me nightmares were the endless waves of enemies falling from the ceiling in DA2. ![]()
IMO Bioware needs a lesson for making scary monsters. These are scary fantasy creatures:

Agreed. I think one of the memorable moments I enjoyed the most in DA:O was A Paragon of Her Kind quest line.

The only darkspawn that really creep me out enough to the point where I either tried to slaughter them all first or attempt to lay back and let my team deal with them so I didn't have to mess with them were the Children *shudder* there is just something about those things that make my skin crawl and now that I think about it might be one of the reasons I really dislike playing Awakening.

I agree with you on that one, but even through I don't like the Children it would be nice to see them make a return sadly to say. Only Darkspawn creatures to make me think I had to look around carefully.
