With the rise in popularity of comic book properties, I think Bioware could make a pretty good super-hero themed action-RPG. Become a Super-Hero or Super-Villain, etc. epic team ups and so on. The genre is rich enough at this point they could also do a deconstruction and it would be well-received (IMO), but with their recent turn towards "gritty" games, I think a change of pace with something more black and white and overall optimistic would be good.

I won't lie. If BioWare or Obsidian got a hold of a licence for one of DC's better known properties it'd shoot up to my top 5 most anticipated. And in the golden age of comic book properties I'm sure one of the big dogs will not turn down more exposure to an overlapping demographic. There's been Action/Adventure, Fighting, and MOBAs based on comic book properties. A cRPG could potentially be ground breaking by bringing the genre to the medium of interactive story-telling (I'm talking Kotor big). And it could also be a way to expose lesser known B and C list properties to a large audience without having the overwhelming pressure for it to succeed at all costs.

Think about it EA/BioWare. Diane Nelson shouldn't be that hard to reach for the likes of you.

Well, I don't think the RPG crowd would be satisfied without an original PC superhero. I imagine that would be a bit less interesting to the property owners.

Not to mention, it might not be that great exposure. RPGs have come a long way, but they still serve a fairly niche market in the grand scheme.

I know that since Kotor BioWare's been more about creating their own stuff. But judging by the Witcher series and the anticipation that's been steadily building up for the Wild Hunt, borrowing a character every once in a while doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

I was just going going of another posters idea though.

One thing is for sure BioWare definitely needs a new IP before genre fatigue starts to kick in. While the film industry maybe be getting over-saturated with comic book IPs,  superheroes comic books is for the most part untapped when it comes to innovation in the gaming industry.

From what I hear, they are working on a new IP. They just aren't ready to announce it yet.

Maybe, then again Geralt is one of the things that still turns me off about the Witcher games. Generally, not having a hand in creating the character strains the definition of RPG in my book (And I know many others agree). I don't wan to start an RPG definition argument, but character creation is a divisive subject.

As for license settings, I don't think adopting a story the way the Witcher games did is really Bioware's preference. Even with Kotor, Bioware pretty much invented an entire epoch in the Star Wars timeline for their purposes.

They're working on a new IP, but haven't announced anything.

Part of the reason I made this thread was because I often think about the directions I think Bioware would do well to explore (Not that I expect them to listen)

Western. I would love to see a western in which you could choose if you play as a sheriff (or a deputy under the sheriff), an indian (North American Native), a zorro like character, a criminal a la billy the kid,

A detective story, but broken into small, independent segments, could be ok too.

I don't want a Brokeback Mountain Rpg

Nah, I'm pretty sure Telltale's already been outdoing anything Bioware could be capable of when it comes to interactive story-telling games based on comics.

That's right, forgot that was a cbp. My bad.

Yeah, but again I bring up the issue of character creation. Put that in, and you introduces a whole different range of variable interactions.

Bioware's pretty adamant about not using licensed properties again, but there's really no need for them to do so to make a successful comic book game.  A lot of great superhero works - Irredeemable, Watchmen, etc. aren't using licensed properties but clearly have strong influences from DC/Marvel.

The X-Men (or equivalent), for example, are a property that's pretty much a Bioware RPG waiting to happen. The whole thing writes itself, including siding with Magneto in the end-game if you go full Renegade mutant supremacist.

I'd like to see a game take a stab at pre-colonial Mesoamerican society and mythology. Ever since that "Quezacotl" GF in FFVIII (Quetzalcoatl being the correct spelling, for the feathered serpent) I've thought it'd be cool to see a game devoted to those sorts of stories.

Oh, and also because of this line:

"Passed down to you by Cuauhtemoc, Emperor of Tenochtitlan."

That's pretty much what happened with the Infamous franchise. There's a lot of potential. I'd love to see a Bioware RPG in such a setting where we could choose what power set we want. That'd be great.

Here's a notion, how about an ancient Greek themed setting. Not necessarily set in Ancient Greece but based on Ancient Greece and Greek mythology in the same way most modern fantasy is based on medieval Europe.
