I'll try not to hate on ME3 to much.
But yes, that is yet another fundamental flaw of ME3.
ME2's squadmates and characters were EASILY the best in the series. Easily.
Anyway's, Kasumi and Shepard romance FTW!!!
I'd get on board the Kasumi romance path. She's a fun character that typically keeps things lighthearted, which is something I tend to favor in companions (which is why James has grown on me exponentially).
As for fundamental flaws, this still lies mainly with ME2, because it basically boils down to two things: the overabundance of companions for a single protagonist in the series, and the fact that the vast majority of them are completely disposable by the end of the second game. Anyone who was expecting to be able to have the same crew all the way to the end of the trilogy was pretty much kidding themselves, because that requires having their companion content, both on missions and on the Normandy, alongside their substitutes. And that's not even considering the ones that fans actually wanted to return that they missed in the second game (VS and Liara).
