As a fan of the horned race and culture I was ecstatic to learn we would be able to play as one, racially if not culturally. To my knowledge we will be a Vasoth, a Qunari who has never been a part of the Qun as opposed to a Tal-Vasoth, a Qunari who used to be a part of the Qun but left. Due to lack of knowledge I imagine many people who meet with our Qunquisitor(pet name for Qunari Inquisitor) won't be able to tell the difference between a Qunari and a Vasoth. Due to their isolationist culture you may be the first Qunari, racially, that many people will meet. What I would like to know is how will other races react to seeing a Qunari in charge of an international and very powerful organisation. Personally I believe reactions will occur like this.

Qunari-Assumption you are Tal-Vasoth and will attempt to capture you for reeducation or kill you on sight

Elves-Curiosity, fear, intolerance(especially when dealing with Dalish) otherwise unknown

Dwarf-Curiosity, fear, possibly hate or envy (technological superiority) constant questioning, otherwise unknown

Humans- Fear, hatred, intolerance, mild curiosity, constant questioning and may attempt to kill you on sight

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated. I apologize to anyone who has started a similar topic.

P.S. Imagined dialogue.

Cassandra-'Are all Qunari as quiet as you?'

Qunquisitor-'Are all humans as chatty as you?'

Solas-'I've never met a Qunari before.'

Qunquisitor-'Feel free to blink. I 'll still be here.'

P.P.S. I love the dialogue Sten has. Hilarious!

The general impression I've gotten from Bioware's statements is that playing as a qunari is going to make the game that much more difficult specifically because of the racial prejudice against you and the idea of a qunari leading such a powerful organization as the inquisition becomes.

I think if we get a free shake from anyone it might be the dwarves, who simply don't have enough contact with the qunari to have a specific hatred of them, so we'll likely be treated with the same isolationist cold shoulder I imagine every inquisitor, including the (presumably surfacer and therefore castless) dwarfquisitor will be treated with.

The dalish are dedicated to the concept of preserving their culture, a culture that the Qun would see annihilated in assimilation. Depending on the clan we'll probably be able to shake off that preconception with after we get the "I don't follow the qun" lecture out of the way, but I anticipate considerable wariness initially.

I think some quests are going to be more difficult for a Vashoth , like Former_Fiend said.

I guess it's more the Chantry who's going to cause trouble , also Orlesians.

The Chantry obviously do not like the Qun , so I think they're going to be very cautious when dealing with The Inquisitor.

Elves and dwarves , I'm not sure they're going to care all that much.

Dalish have no past history with the Qunari , dwarves are just pragmatic when they deal with other races .

It's humans who are going to turn pale when they see a Vashoth leading a great army , for sure.I think it was like 200 or 300 years ago the Qunari were invading all human lands.

Some human may be eager to declare the Qunari are breaking the Llomerryn accord and are being hostile , if the Inquisition cross them.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people won't bother believing there's a difference between a Vashoth and a Qunari.

I hope the Q!Inquisitor can sarcastically pretend to be unaware of their race in conversations.

"A qunari? Here?"

"Oh no, those aren't horns - 'tis actually a very silly hat."

Vivienne disapproves.

Vivienne: *loud gasp* that hat doesn't go with your shoes! (Vivienne disapproves -50)
Quizzy: fine how about this one? *puts on maleficent hat*
Viv: that's better! (Vivienne approves +5)

I hope that a Vashoth PC has the option to sympathize the Qun. He (or she) may have been born outside of or willingly left the philosophy, but to have no opinion on it (good or bad) would be out of place. Ask anyone in the world that's immigrated (even second and third generation immigrants) from one nation to another about their roots and they'll most likely be willing to share their opinion with you.

I swear if there was just ONE time the Qunari PC can say "No" like Sten and the Arishok....I will preorder

It alone would make it worth the price of admission.

I wonder if some city elves for example might greet you warmly (not realizing you are Vashoth, as far as it goes), having heard rumors of possible equality under the Qun?

A qunari born outside the Qun probably considers themselves a qunari. After all, for most of Thedas, qunari just means 'those big people with horns.'

If their parents were (formerly) part of the Qun, they'd probably explain the difference to their children.

There's also the need to explain the difference whenever the angry mob turns up at your door.

Well, that dialogue option wouldn't be quite as witty.

I have a hard time believing that a playthrough with Qunari Inquisitor will really be that much more difficult than any other race.

i am not sure difficult is the right world i think characters may show my wary of the inquisitor at first but not much else

If it's helpful, I believe during last year's Pax Prime the devs mentioned that, similar to becoming a Warden, folks will eventually become less concerned with the PC's race (any race, and likely whether one is a mage or not) and more interested in their being the Inquisitor.

I hope the Qunari Inquisitor has an option to heap scorn and ridicule on the Qun and its adherents at every available opportunity. I think it would be fun to have a character that revels in their apostate status, and views the religion his or her family left behind as a great big pile of nonsense.

I hope playing as a qunari doesn't make too many things more difficult. I was looking forward to doing my "sleep with everyone!" playthrough as a qunari, since, ya know..he's horny.
