Why do I bother keeping my Galactic Readiness up?

Twice a day I'll go to the N7HQ and collect and set off a one hour mission in each sector. Yet I can't really work out why I do this.

I have enough promotions from multiplayer, which I've stopped playing, that even at 50% I would have enough War Assets to go straight to the final battle right at the start of the game and get the Breath scene.

When I play I do pretty much everything. So I'd be able to unlock that Breath scene again at the end just by playing.

Yet twice a day I'll go to the N7HQ and collect and set off a one hour mission in each sector.

It seems that I've developed an odd addiction to keeping my Galactic Readiness at 100% when I know I don't need to do so any longer.

Well I can't say why you do it. When I behave in such a way though it's typically because it lets my imagination run around for a bit. Do you ever think what would the ending look like if all these points actually mattered? It may be similar to how some gamers feel the need to reach the level cap even if the end boss can be defeated well below the cap. That or maybe while on a defensive mission you can't be content unless you don't just defend but go burn the enemy base to the ground not that it changes anything in the storyline but part of you wishes it did.

How would ME3 be different if you truly had all those resources already gathered at the beginning? "Thanks for the designs Shepeard we already have everything we need to make it so give us a week them come on over and we'll take care of this reaper issue." Then again perhaps with those resources the earth wouldn't have fallen.

maybe you need to develop a more constructive habit, like...............collecting bottle caps. you never know when Fallout will strike and you'll need them to barter.

Eh for me the MP is fun in it's own right so the galactic readiness takes care of itself.  Of course I only play the MP when I am doing a SP playthrough of ME 3.  So it slips back down to 50% when I am in between ME 3 playthroughs (either playing the first two games or taking a break from ME in general to play something else).  So everytime I do fire up a new ME 3 playthrough I get to work on getting it back up.  Already have back to 100% for my current playthrough.

The muliplayer is okay but if I am honest I prefer the Horde mode in Gears of War 2 (didn't like the changes in 3).

I know I do it simply because of two thins:

1. I am a completionist. Same reason why I go out of my way and planet scan and get every single war asset even though the missions and DLC give you more than enough. Plus, I like reading the lore informationa and even if they unfortunately don't show us them at work, I like to imagine how they help out the war effort.

2. I don't like seeing the red on top of the galaxy on the start screen.

I won't be keeping Readiness up until I make all my Shepard with their proper endings (which include Vaporize Destroy, Low Destroy, High Destroy, and Low Control).

So basically I won't be keeping Readiness up.

Except in nihilism and for of course, the only point in the games where Liara's plot armour can go away- low EMS Destroy/Control are pretty pointless. You can leave your galaxy for dead but the Reapers are still stopped or controlled. Even the inane Refuse is a matter of the next cycle. On the other hand, I can only see keeping your EMS at 100% if you don't have any DLC. A healthy 80% should let you skip scan and rescue.

I still maintain that the galactic readiness would have been better had it been a score based on your actions in the earlier games as in the more sidequests done, the higher the score. The mineral resources really needed to be worth more- resources are crucial in a war and an ample supply were only worth, for example four trained people, i.e. Petrovsky, Miranda, Jack, Jacob and so on.

If you play on the 360, just get it to 100%, then disconnect from online and start a new game. Readiness will remain at 100% in the new game despite never playing multiplayer :).

I'm unsure if this glitch is only on the 360 though.
