I really need to find better reference for King!Alistair's furry leather splintmail thing.

For "fiddly" bits like armor, I usually find it easier to use really contrasting values when I start painting. If I don't establish a good value range at the early stages, I have the tendency to end up with a "mush" of soft edges, with no shape or form.
