Dragon Age 2:

Fenris: Angry, violent, intolerant. Driven by vengeance and rage. Not a good person.

Isabela: Allows hundreds to die just so she can keep stealing stuff. Also, a literal pirate. Not a good person.

Merrill: Makes deals with demons, willfully, despite being told the dangers. Blood Mage. Gets her clan killed. No remorse for her actions. Not a good person.

Anders: Mass murderer. Yup. Not a good person.

Origins:

Zevran: An unrepentant assassin, who loves killing people and then sharing the tale. He's fun and light-hearted, yes, but he also loves murdering people. Not a good person.

Morrigan: She's Morrigan. Not a good person.

Leliana: She seems genuinely remorseful of her violent and manipulative past, and is attempting to make it right. A good person.

Alistair: A boy scout. A good person.

Total Count:

Jerks: 6

Good: 2

Inquisition:

Can we have some more good people, please? Can we have a romance option who is not violent, sadistic, or cruel? Maybe even a few?

I don't think you're using the word "jerk" right. Merrill and Zevran, for example, are pretty nice in terms of how they treat you. So is Isabella. This is more about moral compass and actions.

Which is arguable too.

I've seen Merrill express remorse. Doesn't that depend on whether you're on the friendship or rivalry track?

I certainly wasn't anywhere near as fond of Morrigan and Leliana as I was in the love interests in Mass Effect. Who were much more varying degrees of good.

Have you finished the game yet?

I'd hesitate to call Merrill a "not a good person"  Not a wise person, sure.  And she does express remorse for her actions, particularly if you rival her.

Honestly, after DA2, I'd settle for a romance storyline where I don't feel like I'm trying to fix somebody.

Cassandra might not be a jerk.  Varric too.  If DHMG is Dorian, he probably isn't

Sera, Iron Bull and Vivienne seem like they are.

Cullen... has some redemption to earn in my eyes.

Rest, I don't have a clue

Isn't this pure traditional Bioware? All four BG2 romances were pretty damaged people.

This is why I always get a bit confused when some people are so vehemently against Varric ever possibly being a love interest. Because I imagine someone like him would totally answer the void pointed out in the OP. ;)

I'd rather Varric be who Varric already is then become what he would be if he were a PC love interest. And no one deserves to here the things that would be said to them by the PC anyway.

I would prefer for Varric to continue to grow and develop as a character. If his writers want that to be as a love interest, so be it. If his writers want that to be in a relationship with Bianca, so be it. If his writers want that to be as the Inquisitor's BFF, so be it. Ultimately, it's up the writers and I'm happy to just enjoy more time with Varric who was a pretty likeable guy in whatever capacity they see fit.

Meh.

Morrigan can end up caring greatly about the warden despite manipulating him, she almost cries in a convo. She's being raised by Flemeth to see love as weakness, can you really blame her for being cold at times?

And Zevran was trained to be a killer since he was seven, yet if he falls in love with the warden, he gives them everything. He's incredibly loyal and sweet to a warden he trusts.

Isabela risks her life for Hawke if she returns with the tome.

Merrill feels terrible because of what happened to Marathari and possibly her clan (I get mad at her all the time, she may be foolish and stubborn, but she's hardly "bad"). Fenris was abused for years, yet he's hardly out of control and can fall in love with a mage.

And Anders.. well.. I don't like Anders

If you're going to call Anders out for being a mass murderer, then everybody else is too. They've slaughtered literally hundreds of people each. You're seriously going to get on his ass for taking out a few extra in the process of demolishing a building?

Zevran was sold to the crows as a child and was trained to enjoy killing at a young age, but I don't expect anyone on a gaming forum to have the slightest sympathy for individuals with mental and emotional issues stemming from legitimate trauma.

Exactly what is Morrigan supposed to have done that was soooooooooooo terrible?

I wouldn't call Merrill a jerk. She has a good heart, but is just a bit naive.

Also, Sergeant Rex Power Colt, your avatar pleases me.

I wonder what it's like to be so simplistic that, that's the only characterization one could come up with.

Are you expressing the want for a perfect character who has never done/never does anything wrong as an LI? I very much doubt that will happen considering there are no perfect people. All characters treat you well when romanced or "friended" so I don't see how calling them "jerks" is appropriate.

Even if I didn't romance or particularly like all characters I appreciated the fact they were diverse and had different struggles to overcome and different causes that were important to them.

Maybe you mean a more naïve character who hasn't experienced a whole lot yet (and in turn hasn't had the opportunity to make many poor decisions) or someone very "straight-laced" and obsessed with following rules like Aveline or Kaiden? I would have no issue with a character like that, one who hasn't come from a sordid past. That would show diversity. I don't think all characters should be like that, that's unrealistic; especially with all the oppression that exists in the DA universe. Sometimes life forces hard choices, making the wrong choice doesn't necessarily make you a "jerk" or a "bad person," it just makes you human... or a dwarf... or an elf... You know what I mean!

Gameplay/story segregation. Also, in most cases, self defense. Anders blew up a building with a bunch of innocent people in it just to prove a point.

That's called terrorism.
