He didn't say wandering, but rewatching it I did notice that he said it was "a few years ago" so Sandal could have been a kid, maybe even older.

2. We find him in Fort Drakon surrounded by a sea of dead darkspawn.
3. We find him surrounded by dead darkspawn AGAIN in the deep roads
4. He somehow froze a full sized ogre solid in one move, something no mage has been able to come close to doing. It would probably take Morrigan 30 cone of colds to take down an ogre.
5. He sees dead people.
6. He profesized an event that only the Oracle and an ancient tome the divine owned had any idea about.
7. The Carta knew to stay away from him and hinted at him being an Aeducan.
If he was just a joke, he was prank. One ten times more complex than the plot of origins.
When did 1, 5, and 7 happen? If he claims to see dead people, then that doesn't mean he actually sees them. Gaider acknowledged that Sandal knows how to make enchantments that blow stuff up. I've said things that were going to happen that ended up happening, even when joking about them, not to mention that Sandal's "prophecy" was extremely vague and could be interpreted in many ways.
I don't think Sandal is a "joke". I just don't think he's as important as people are making him out to be.

I highly doubt that Sandal is anything more than he seems. Even David Gaider said he never intended for Sandal to be some amazing, prophetic genius.
more than likely they never expected it to get this big and have no clue what to do with him at this point, but my money is on them eventually making him a big part of one of the future games
It's nice he's in the games and all, but I really hope Gaider manages to keep him on as a running gag/joke rather than something super important/serious.

He's a sweet lad, and his mystery is part of what makes him so.
I hope they keep him as a cheerful savant, and as a reminder that not everything has to be, or can be, or should be, explained.
I do feel protective of him, though, which is absurd, seeing as he can clearly more than take care of himself. I don't want him in the centre of the action, and I don't want him to become a target for, say, some Orlesian intrigue. I think it'd be best if he and Bohdan found themselves a comfortable suite in the Keep, in return for runes, reagents and gossip.

I didn't like how he was depicted in DA2. He became a bit of a joke to me. Hawke even says, "does he even read?" Iunno, put me off quite a bit.
I love Sandal and I definitely hope to see him again in Inquisition.

I should also point out that you find him surrounded by a bunch of dead abominations and demons at the end of da2.
But Bodahn didn't find him abandoned in the Deep Roads as a baby. He found him wandering around the Deep Roads. And again, just because he says he sees dead people doesn't mean he really sees dead people.
And if he is an Aeducan, it doesn't mean he's a prophetic genius or anything.

No I don'r agree sandals version sounds more like a prophecy that ambiguous nonsence.
What really intrigued me with Sandal are the very bright blue eyes along with the ability to freeze an Ogre. I can't really accept that he is a prank character when he has so many subtleties suggesting that he is of magic nature. Destroying a room full of darkspawn in DAO is one thing, but they expanded on it.
