I'd rather not see her again, if we do, perhaps we can exact some justice on her

Unless it's attached to the Warden plot, I wouldn't want to see her, and even then, there are three or four others I'd rather see instead of her.

I like Velanna, but I don't want her to make a hamfisted cameo.

I would love to see Velanna again.

I always wished that she had Merrill's place as a companion and romance in DA2.  Oh how happy I would have been.

Similar to Donald Sterling IRL?

Being a minority myself I dislike racism as much as the next dude; but TMZ had no right to record a private conversation of the guy. I think the increasing lack of privacy is the real issue here. Prejudice has and will always exist; violation of privacy however does not to become a trend. I mean you'd think people would've learned after the NSA scandal.

But on topic... Velanna did have a thing for Nate Howe. So I don't think it'd be as bad as you make it out to be.

Oh my.

Someone hasn't played Awakening and seen the epilogue where Velanna sheds her hatred.  Posted right here in this thread, for that matter.

Like the epilogue where Anders stays in the Warden forever and doesn't take Justice as his +1? If Velana would have been in DA:2, Bioware wouldn't suddenly have her suddenly become progressive and not-a-racist.

I'd like her to come back like that crazed elf in Sister's Petrice's mission.

Just with less crazed and less sickly looking skin. A more healthy lunatic.

...I don't think her fans want to have to kill her.

Suddenly?  Maybe not, but improvement over time would have been possible and highly likely.  As a human warden, Velanna warms up to you quite a bit.  That aside, whether or not the epilogue would be canon or not (not that you would know) isn't the point.  It shows that it is within her character to change, and this is what I'd love to have experienced personally in DA2.  ^_^

Velanna is less of an outright racist, and she's personally much less abrasive to you as a human Warden, but there's a big gulf between that and her no longer being a racist. The extent to which she abandons her racism matters, because it's the starting point for her character arc. A romance arc about someone learning not to be a racist is like someone IRL dating a white supremacit and teaching them they shouldn't be one. It's just not something I would enjoy seeing at all.

What was so significant about her other than her being a companion to the Warden-Commander in Awakening?

Mostly a subplot related to the Architect choice. She's the only real vocal proponent for siding with him. Her sister advocates that the Architect is just looking after his people, like they would care for their own people (the Dalish). Sigrun (also written by Sheryl Chee) is kind of her counterpart, I guess. You have to kill her if you side with the Architect.

Actually, Nathaniel is also a proponent of the Architect and will disapprove if you turn on him, in the same amount that Velanna will.

Sigrun doesn't have to die. I just finished DAA and sided with the Architect, and she can be persuaded to go along to avoid her being hostile, netting -10 disapproval. The same is true for Justice, I believe.

It's mostly for the points though. He doesn't have much of a reason to protest. There's no story built around it.

That's all I meant. Y'know, like most choices in the DA games have a standout companion on a quest. Velanna is it right there.

I don't think she's racist. Yes she doesn't like Humans because of the fact that she thought they had taken/killed her sister.

The whole Theda's is racist against elves. I'm pretty sure Velanna has every right and reason to hate humans

Any prejudice Velanna has for humans won't be problematic in Inquisition's time. It's pretty much evidenced by her interactions with the Warden (and Nathaniel, for that matter).

Doesn't make her less of an annoying tsundere, though :P

I think Velanna has fine potential, just needs to be less on that crusade.

I sided with the Architect and got some "zomg ru srs?" from Nate and Anders, in the end only Justice turned on me I ended up happily putting a sword through him. Velanna survived in the epilogue and mentioned helping people.

Nathaniel's response may depend on how much of the conversation you have with the Architect, because I went through all of what he had to say, and when Sigrun objects, Nathaniel will say "Darkspawn or no, he has a point" and from there if you go against him, Nathaniel will disapprove.

The point is, Velanna and her sister are key points before you meet the Architect in the Winding woods. And then again, when you meet her sister in the Dragonbone wastes.

Nathaniel is just some dude with an opinion who gives approval/disapproval points.

Not true. Elves aren't racist against elves.

...actually, I take that back.

You don't need to take it back. It isn't true. ;)

Dalish mentality revolves around one saying : "Never again shall we submit". They are adamant about finding their own path, no matter how much it sucks. It's pride, for better or worse. What they don't like about City Elves is they see them as people who finally "gave in" and took whatever meager life and bread crumbs the humans would give.

It's no different when you have a friend who "sold out" or something. Not "racism".

It's ignorance and arrogance. I think "racism" means discrimination in this context.

Nothing wrong with ignorance and arrogance then. Those are completely different than racism though. Who would want to even be aware of that kind of life? Ignorance would be bliss, if you ask me.

And I know I would be arrogant myself. But it's not arrogant to the point that they keep it to themselves. The Dalish welcome newcomers. They want them to enjoy it like they do. They don't say "No, you suck, and you're not good enough for this." They say "Have some ****** dignity and join us."
