I dont see anywhere tht isabela "drowned" the slaves anywhere. I saw that the ship got hit by the storm after she freed the slaves. I havent read the comics tho thats why im just looking at wiki.
Yeah, it's in the comics.
To be fair, she didn't want to experience something like this again, which is why she freed slaves another time, and pissed off Castillon. And then we meet her soon afterwards.

When the Orlesian navy one day cornered their ships in the Venefication Sea. Lord Devon had packed the holds tightly and Isabela failed to outmaneuver the Orlesians which forced them to throw the chained slaves to the ocean in order to escape.

One thing for sure, Bioware knows how to create unlikable characters.

More like... very complex. Some hate them, some love them, but no one gets ignored
Except Jacob and Sebastian
But I still like them both

I don't mind Sebastian.
Only thing I dislike about him is in my playthrough, where Alistair isn't even king.. and he tells Aveline that he admires the story of the blight -- especially the "Warden Alistair". lol. What a dork.

Ah. But "forced themto throw the chained........"sounds like its not only her decision out of spite. Human survival instinct? Not murderous rampage because she's angry.
I should order those comics.
The only thing I don't like about this is that they didn't have her tell this in game. She keeps it from Hawke, even in a romance. It makes an otherwise funny character I liked more lame, in retrospect. I don't look at her the same.

As far as I know in the Act 3 she tried to start working the that slaver again?
Pretty bad idea IMHO
Btw, here, an example of how elves are treated even nowadays in Thedas. In the comic, if I am not mistaken, all these drowned slaves were elves. Or majority of them

Are you claiming she wouldn't have done the same if the majority of the slaves were Humans?

Hm? No, it has nothing to do with Isabella
It's just elves are still a very valuable as slaves. Cheap and easy to obtain resource

I hope so. I liked her as a character. I made her a warden. She has an unresolved plot arc. For all those reasons, I really want to see her in DAI.

surely doesn't help a character very pro-elven like Velanna to like the humans, I dare to say.

Dont feel so bad. The comics probably came out after da2 anyway so that did not really happen yet.

Well, I'd say her sister and the Architect has the unresolved arc. It's just nice if Velanna is part of it. Makes the story better imo.

I'm not a fan of Velanna. I'd much rather see Sigrun, because dwarf females are pretty much neglected by BioWare. There are like five memorable dwarven ladies in Origins (six if the Warden is one), one in Awakening and none in DA2.
As for the elven rebellion, if it's really going to happen (haven't read any of the novels or comics so I don't know) I don't think that Velanna should be given a big role in it, if any at all. Someone like Lanaya seems like a more fitting choice in my opinion.

Do they even have a dwarven female model for DA2? Terribly neglected, I agree.

I don't believe Velanna cares about her sister. She uses her sister as an excuse for her actions. She refuses to see anything for what it is- only what she wants it to be. If she and her sister were close Velanna wouldn't have to wonder what had happened. Sis wouldn't tell her because Vellama would kill the architect or anyone who stands in the way of how Velana sees the world. She doesn't care about her people either. She does what she wants and what she wants to do his kill folks.
Oh, god. I was willing to hear you earlier, but damn. Velanna is one of the crew that wants to spare the Architect, specifically because of her sister's words.
Just say you don't like the character. Keep it simple.

Why do you think her sister slipped away without telling Velanna what was going on? Velanna wants to spare the architect after her sister tells her to, if her sister had mentioned this before leaving I am sure Velanna would act differently. She treats her sister and her people like possessions. Everyone must do as she says or she attacks them with trees.
That isn't just about Velanna. Velanna is with a Grey Warden (namely, you). There's tension and a lot of unknowns between everyone at that point.
She eventually does tell her at the last level though, and Velanna listens. She doesn't even argue. Instantly takes her sister at her word.

Wow. What a bunch of bullshit
Velanna cares about her sister. It is canon regardless of how you personally perceive it
