Did they ever bother dismantling the Conduit?

I was just up on the Presidium talking with Councilor Anderson and decided to look around a bit. Off in the distance it looked as though the Conduit was still standing where it always had, though it was hard to tell from that distance. Maybe someone with a freecam could get a better look. Also, is the Krogan Memorial still there? It was difficult to see through the trees, though I believe I caught a glimpse of the base of the statue. Again, someone with a freecam would be able to get a better view.

The krogan memorial is still there. Grunt and Aralakh company climbed it after they broke him out of the hospital, right before he stole a c-sec skycar.

Yes, its still there in Grunt's meet up. But, what I want to know is if it is there when you meet with Anderson in ME2. And I don't mean "there" in the sense that it is nominally/story-wise still there, but whether it is physically (graphically?) still there.

I think, I noticed this as well. That's is hilariously negligent if it's still, there, I will do a fly cam of the area. During my other play through

I believe the Conduit is still in place. The caretaker you have to talk to about fish in the lakes up there mentions going to see the flowers around where the Conduit is.

That's the name. Don't forget to have a few drinks while you're there, heh.

I don't think they dismantled it so much as forgot about it

They didn't dismantle it, as was already mentioned. Personally, I headcanoned that they replaced it with an inert duplicate and covered up the fact that the Conduit was how the Geth gained access to the Presidium (since all witnesses to this fact were probably slaughtered in the first place).

This would also very neatly explain why dock security is so paranoid about people smuggling Geth into the citadel in ME2, if they didn't know how they actually accessed the Citadel in the first place.

The Council is stupid and naive - but that much to leave the Conduit as is? Even IF the Ilos end was inert, which the story suggests it is, there would still be a public outcry over the miniature relay that the Geth walked through if they knew about it. So some combination of either the public didn't know, it was covered up, it was replaced with a copy, or both makes the most sense.

There is no need to dismantle the conduit since mass relays don't allow for "phasing" though solid objects unless the plot demands for it, in which case they'd be screwed anyway.

Well, anyone who knows anything about how mass relays work would know that that the geth couldn't have used the conduit because that's not how physics work in the ME universe.

Wrong. Mass Relays do allow for phasing through solid objects. They did in ME1. If they did in ME1 that's the way they work. Drew just decided to change them. You have to realize that lore in the MEU is a free for all.

I always thought FTL mass had some sort of phasing property, that's why there isn't any deadly collisions with gas clouds or shielding from light.

I do realize this, and that's why I'm telling you that the conduit couldn't possibly work with the new rules. Arguing that you are right because it appeared earlier but was later changed is silly.

Uh... What are these new rules people are talking about?

Between the conduit, the Vanguard's ability to disregard anything in their way when charging, the lack of relay-transit-planet-collisions and the fact that the Citadel beam transports Shepard inside the Citadel, I've just assumed that 'mass-free-tunnels' allow people to disregard any 'mass' that gets in the way...

I agree, the rules were never changed. Mass relays allow phasing through solid objects - that's HOW they work. It's in the game, it's in the codex, and it was never changed. What in the world are these people referring to?

How the shenkies do you safely dismantle a mass relay (even a tiny one) in a highly populated area?

Perhaps you could use a Crane to move it to a loading dock, ship it out into space, and then "dispose" of it.

Is it part of the superstructure? ...Or something? I mean, it was designed to not be moved. And look inert.

I guess you can jam the rotating rings which contain the liquid eezo (is that how they work?). Although, I don't know what the free eezo would do.

Well, it either gives you space super-powers or space cancer.
