My characters for my Dragon Age Origin profile have not updated in over a year. I was not that bothered before, but with Inquisition being released this year I would like to import my characters.
Has anyone had a similar problem, and can offer me some advice?

It is sad that other people are having the same problem. Hopefully with the release of Inquisition these problems will be fixed.
You wont be importing your character into the third Dragon Age game anyway. Rather it is going to have "The Keep", something similar to "Mass Effect: Genesis" where you can recreate your choices.
Unfortunately I have the feeling it is going to be as vague as Genesis too.

I was under the impression the Keep was some sort of cloud service for your saves as well as being a tool to generate new saves. Am I mistaken?

You're right metatheurgist.
The Keep is just a save generator to let you establish the world state for Inquisition.
It's sad in a way that we wont be able to import, understandable really given the different game engine, but at the same time the import from Origins to DAII was pretty much useless (such as Leliana being able to regrow a head for some people.)
No save import then. Wow. Just wow.
