So I was thinking the other day while getting ready for bed, since apparently random thoughts just occur to me out of the blue while I am doing things...its a curse really. :P

But the Templar Order exists to protect the world from Maelificar, Apostates, and any mage who succumbs and turns into an abomination.  They hunt them down ruthlessly because of the twisted horrors mage's can become, and often do become, thanks to Demonic influence.  With the power to destroy cities and bend human minds to their world.

But now, thanks to red Lyrium, Templars can now turn into twisted paranoid monsters.  In trailers and demos we have seen behmouth's and Meredith went insane.  They are paronoid, but have access to super natural powers, often turning against anyone who is not like them and corrupting others to fight for them (Bartrand's insane guards).  The irony is rife.

This also brings to mind the question, do the Red Templars and Red Lyrium suffer from demonic influence?  Is this demon's ways of controlling non magic users?

He who fights monsters must ensure that he himself does not eat the funny rocks that turn him into a crazy crystal monster.

Pretty much. :P

Just that Templars have been fighting corruption and abominations for centuries and now certain members of their order are turning themselves into something which could be far worse then the amboninations and pride demons that they claim to fight.

But they make him so good at fighting the real monsters.

If the leak is to be believed it is even more ironic that the red templars seek to invade the black city as well.

I have heard people mention that several times on the forums but I do not know about any 'leak' that mentioned the Red Templars doing...much of anything.  Their motives to me remain quite unknown.  Of course this may have been changed or edited for several reasons but if it is true...it certainly heightens the tension and puts them solidly in the camp of either causing the breach or being eccstatic it is happening.  Perhaps Red Lyrium came back with the Magisters when they invaded the Golden City and it wants to go 'back'.

http://forum.bioware...sible-spoilers/ This is the 'leak' in question I think. A lot of it could just be accurate guesses but it mentioned the red templars by name well before any demos were shown.

I just took a look at the leak again. Unless things have changed I am guess the guy behind all this is a mortal.

I take it as in 'non demon or demon possesed or Flemeth'?  IDK.  It could still theoreticlaly be a demon since it seems they can't enter the black city either so maybe they or whoever it is is trying to cheat?  Just think it might be a bit early to rule anything else especially when you take all the information as a whole.

Edit: Its just hard for me to imagine the Red Templars, for instance, actually being behind it all.  They look like just pawns because Red Lyrium either turns one insane and super paranoid and into this flesh eating abomination, or grunting growling big sort of seemingly unintelligent monsters.  Neither of which screams 'tear opener' to me.  Though, whatever faction Red Lyrium represents...or it could simply be a compulsion Red Lyrium creates...causes them to go insane and try and get into the Black City again which either makes their goals similar to the 'Big Bad' or makes them pawns.

They didn't even need Tarohne to go this route. They're stupid enough to just do it to themselves.

I'll agree that these red templars are most likely pawns. Perhaps the red lyrium song compels them to do what they do? Kinda like the archdemons do to dark spawns and wardens.

Whats also interesting is that there's red lyrium in the fade (from what we can see in the release pictures)

Funny as I was reading that I thought Archdemon, then I read...Archdemon. :P

And that is...interesting.  Hmm the possibilities are endless but I wonder what it could mean and there are too many theories and ideas and not enough evidence bouncing around in my head.

Yeah, something to do with old gods has crossed my mind. At the very least, they seem alike.

That would suck if that lyrium idol in DA2 was related to the old god song.

Well I was thinking they could be related to each other somehow.  Don't know how yet but it would not surprise me that Red Lyrium appeared around the same time as the Dark Spawn and is somehow related to them and just the taint in general.

Knowing that Red Lyrium has the capabilities of indoctrination, I'm not going to cast full blame to the Red Templars just yet.

I don't know. Considering that Cullen seems to be alright, then I'm going to guess some idiot intentionally involved themselves or wanted the power Meredith had. If it was an accident, then I'd like to know how he escaped.

We don't know Cullen's story yet. We do know that Red Templars are not all Templars, so they could have been exposed after they left.

Well the disctinction 'red templars' suggests there is 'regular' templars running around and that the 'red' templars are intentionally trying to use Red Lyrium to gain more power.  Probably in an attempt to gain more power to counter the mage threat in the war with the mage's.  And the regular templars are like 'nope nope nope' and then of course I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Templars are intentionally force feeding Red Lyrium to civilians too 'convert' them.

A lot of people become templars because they hate mages. With a large number of mages resorting to blood magic in the mage templar war, these templars would go to great lengths to ensure that the mages don't win. Red lyrium grants immense power to anyone using it and it could be the templars' reply to blood magic.
Pity neither the mages nor the templars see the big picture.

That is why you will lead an Inquisition. ;)

I just remembered that Bartrand was force feeding his soldiers regular lyrium so they could hear the song of the idol as well.

These people ended becoming crazy as well.

Curiouser and Curiouser.  Makes me wonder if Red Lyrium can corrupt Regular Lyrium in addition to everything else.  Would explain why it seems like it was just discovered and now in some areas it is literally overunning the place.

Who would have ever guessed that a society of drug addicts would end up taking a much more dangerous drug and start killing everyone.

Truly this was the surprise of the century.
