Haha!
So Microsoft are eating their own words, (i.e., Phil Harrison to CVG in August 2013: "Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems.")
Still won't buy One.

Huh, this happens the day after my birthday. I guess it's about time I starting collecting funds.
What a complete Joke the Xbone is... wow, just wow.

I only want one because of Dead Rising!!
The Xboner also has Remedy's next game that isn't Alan Wake & Sunset Overdrive. But nah, not enough for me to buy 'One'.I only want one because of Dead Rising!!

Lol that's right Chris! I will be buying the ps4 first within a few months but I just gotta have the xbox one as well because of those games, I just GOTTA!!!! LOL ![]()
I'm gonna wait a few years before buying either one of those tbh (PS4 or Xbone). But it is good to see they are already changing some things. By the time I buy one, maybe there will have been even more b=positive changes ![]()
With all the privacy violations that are going on -- i.e., NSA mass-spying on everyone with whatever technology that's available in people's homes, British Intelligence secretly turned on webcams in people's homes to spy on people -- I cannot understand why anyone would pay $500 to put a device in their homes that can facilitate governments spying on them inside their own homes. Microsoft and the gaming press are not talking about the obvious security and privacy concern with Kinect. It is the elephant in the room that is, for whatever reason, rarely mentioned in the press.
I do not know about you, but that is the number one reason why I will never get an Xbox One. When I visited a friend and saw a Kinect in her living room, I actually got a towel and put it over the camera to cover it during my visit. People should stay away from Xbox One just because Kinect is a tool to let governments (or hackers or whoever) to secretly watch people inside their own homes. I really think the people and the press should talk about the security and privacy problem with Kinect more often. I hope Xbox One will fail because of Kinect. Microsoft and Xbox One should be getting more bad PR over Kinect's security and privacy concerns. We must send a strong message to Microsoft and other companies, as well as to the governments, that we cannot tolerate a survillance state and consumer products that enable it.
It is not a boycott. It is just good sense.
@KT Chong,
But don't you like to play Dragon Ball Kinect and Star Wars Kinect?
Nope. Never played it, and certainly NOT interested.
The problem with Kinect is not only because it is a camera that is right inside your home, but it is a camera that is mandatory, always online, and connected to Microsoft - and god knows who and where else. I do not understand why anyone would think that type of technolgy could be an acceptable in people's homes after the Snowden-NSA revelations. (I know Microsoft supposedly removed that "feature" from Xbox One; but that architeture was built into the system, and Microsoft can change their mind and bring back that "feature" at any time. Yeah, as if Microsoft would never change a decision.)
[I conjectured that when Microsoft removed the mandatory-always-on-Kinect "feature", they were planning and hoping to pull a bait-and-switch later down the road. As soon as hundreds of millions of people have adopted Xbox One and tied into the Xbox eco-system, Microsoft will bring back that "feature". Then Xbox One customers will very little say. They will have to take that "feature" in their arses because the cost of moving out of the eco-system will be too high for individual consumers.]
Please people, do not buy Xbox One. That disregard and disrepect for consumer privacy and security deserves to be wiped from the market. Xbox One deserves to fail so its demise will send a signal to other technology companies that, please do not spy on us, or create anything that makes it easy for governments/hackers to spy on us.
Also the rumors about 'Win 9' say that it's an always online windows. A confusing statement. What the hell is Microsoft up to? At least their Office 2013 is a good one.
Win 7 forever is my motto now!
I'll probably get the XB1 without the kinect for sunset overdrive some time in the future. The PS4 still looks better to me but i'm waiting for more price drops on both.

How would Microsoft propose to do that?
The biggest concern - and it is very realistic concern - with Kinect is that it was (and likely still is or will be) the camera with the always-on connect that can be turned on from the other end of the connection without you knowing, when you and your partner are doing some kinky stuff at your end. That is the fundamental problem with Kinect. I do not trust whatever Microsoft tries to say to divert attention, (as if Microsoft has been completely honest and trustworthy in how they've been handling people's Hotmail accounts.) The camera is still there, and the architecture and the original intent were to be mandatory always-on. It is a good thing that Microsoft will remove mandatory Kinect from Xbox One in June, but the damage was already done.
Windows 9 will not have a built-in always-on camera.
I will wait to buy a PS4 until the "slim" design comes out.
Forget Xbox One. Kinect offends me.
I wonder how frustrating it will be to operate the XB1 without Kinect. It's my understanding that all of the hardware was designed around Kinect (turning it on, switching to Netflix, switching to television, etc.) From what I've read, the interface is not as smooth using just the controller for this. I think if you're going to buy an XB1, I would wait for a complete hardware design before buying. Maybe they'll come out with something similar to the 360 slim model where the Kinect is not as integrated.
I actually switched from XBox (I have both the original and the 360) to PS4 because I didn't like where Microsoft was going with the XB1, and I have to say it was an easy transition. The games are beautiful and the controller is great. It's a much nicer size than the old DualShock3 and the only thing I had to get used to was the D pad and left analog stick are in opposite places from where they are on the XBox controller. The only thing that is irksome is that the battery life on the DualShock4 is pretty short, probably because of the light. They just pushed through an update that allows you to dim it and I'm hoping for one that will allow you to turn it off altogether. Apparently the light is built in for some future VR feature that I would love to hear more about.
But for those of you who haven't decided yet, I would say stick it out as long as you can. There are some problems with both machines that will need some ironing out. The PS4 has had a few software and firmware glitches, but nothing that can't be fixed via updates and patches. I'm very skeptical that just removing Kinect from the XB1 will work smoothly, so I would definitely wait it out on that one. Anyway, just my humble opinion.
I found the whole "The Xbox One needs the Kinect in order to function" thing rather amusing, and I'm not at all surprised that they came out with a version that didn't include the Kinect.
I'm still sticking with my PC for the time being, though. I might get a console later on in the generation, although I have no idea which one.

How does this make that piece of crap better?
It doesn't. It still has no games.

In Thief the light actually changes colour depending on whether your character was in the shadows or not.

There just aren't games, IMO, that are console exclusive anymore than I really have any interest in playing, so there's no point in not just investing in a PC.
i think the changes to the xbox live subscription requirements is the bigger news. People that bought in are apparently getting a refund(but not everyone...dun, dun, duuuuuuun!), and it is no longer required in order to utilize 3rd party apps which Xbox just so happens to consider premium...Which if my limited understanding of it is/was correct, it was one of the doggiest and blatantly obvious attempts to pilfer cash I've seen since $15 dlc.
Either way I'm out of the bleeding edge of this gens games. Will be interesting to see how consumer reactions play out in conjunction with the new direction MS is taking for devs and the console in the long term.
So, what now?
Asking the same price for an inferior product?
When they asked for more money, the public believed (deluded) that it was because of the "essential" camera. And that the camera would impact on the games.
But what about now? It should cost at least 25 dollars less than a PS4.
Frankly, unless microsoft menages to secure some deals for exclusive titles (or at least semi-exclusives, six months prior to a pc release and 1 year prior to a ps4 release) I think this system is nothing but a joke.
Why would I pay the same, when I can have a PS4, that has almost the exact same catalog, and offers games at higher resolution and frame-rate?
Thed only way I can see for microsoft to reverse this fiasco is by reducing the price of games, and make exclusive deals with companies, securing strong titles just to the x1.
Otherwise, only a misinformed fool would rather have the x1 when you can pay the same for a superior experience on ps4. So far, the only exclusive I´m looking forward to is quantum break.
If Microsoft is smart, they could try now to purchase Sega or Capcom. Having capcom franchises such as resident evil, street fighter and devil may cry as exclusives could turn the tide.
I´m very disappointed with them ever since this console was revealed. It was an never-ending succession of mistakes. At the same time, Sony displayed real maturity, showing that they learned their lessons well from some mistakes made with PS3, and presented a very solid product, well projected in all aspects.
I´m a pc gamer, and I think I shall remain so for the time being, but I do consider the PS4 a very respectful platform, and an excellent console by today´s standards. Since microsoft´s product is clearly inferior, they will have to damage control it by making better offers.
@Raizo that's good to hear. I think I will still wait to see if and when Microsoft decides what exactly they want their game console to be before I buy one. I did love my previous Xbox consoles, so it was a tough decision to go with PlayStation this time around. But I think I made the right choice. That is until Xbox offers an exclusive game that I'll want badly enough!
@Sergeant Rex I haven't played Thief, but that is kind of cool. Does it actually help with the game play for the color to change or is it just a neat feature?
I also agree with MoonSpot that the Xbox Live subscription change is huge. I dropped my Xbox Live subscription after the first year because I thought it was ridiculous. You basically pay for stuff like Netfix access that you could do for free on your PC or with a blu-ray player. I missed out on some multi-player, but I don't play those that often, so that wasn't a huge loss (though I wish I had it while I was playing Dragon's Dogma). I'm willing to give PSN a try. With the free games offered there, it seems like it's a much better deal.
