I really feel sorry for you that you're bored with the trilogy because of 3. Just remember it's not about the destination it's about the journey, and the journey is beautiful.

The destination is part of the journey in this case. Stop trying to act all smart, your analogy is terrible

Boredom? Nah, but I haven't gone through the series in about a year since I've been playing other stuff in my game time.

I'm gearing up for a new trilogy run soon.

The only point to replaying any title in the trilogy would be to try something different. If someone insists on pure paragon or no-man-left-behind in the suicide mission every time, things will get stale fast. I tried to make each of my playthroughs as different from each other as I could; different romance(s), different combination of survivors, different outlook. Kept things (relatively) fresh.

I can play my canon Shepard over and over to further refine him into the character and playthrough I want.

I've probably done that 6 times

Almost all my playthroughs are different. I'm currently doing a kill all female squadmate playthrough.

I did a playthrough without firing my weapon. Just used powers.

Did a playthrough only using a pistol, only using a sniper rilfe.

Once I finish the playthrough I'm doing, I'm not sure what I will do next.

Shoot, I've done it so many times as well.

The SM mechanic was a shot in the foot. Personally, I think it should have had a couple of forced deaths, a virmire-esque choice, and possible deaths depending on who's in your party in the last stage of the mission. And to throw it in, have it be possible for Shepard himself to die. Since that save won't import anyway, there's no point not making it since it is a Suicide mission. That way, certain characters can be uploaded into ME3 with a stronger probability of relevance to the plot.

I've done so with my canon twice in each game. Doing a final (third) playthrough with him now that I've got a bunch of high-res mods installed. But yeah, the rest of my Shepards are pretty divergent.

Renegade Reinterpretations had an interesting model for the suicide mission. You would lose no less than four squadmates. For instance, the tech specialist in the pipes would die because it's welded shut on the other end, but if you choose a good tech, they'd get the door open in time before one of the two squadmates with you got cut down.

I've always had 100% survivors on the suicide mission, just because I try to think through the mind of the Shepard I'm playing, and none of them are idiots.
(Unless I'm killing off Jacob for the lolzes.)

Tali makes sense for the vents, as she is easily the best tech specialist. Garrus has the most experience leading a team, Samara is an Asari Matriach, the most powerful biotics in the Galaxy, and Kasumi is skilled with getting out of places stealthily.

The only thing that slightly screwed my first suicide mission was not being able to settle the feud between Tali and Legion, and offering Legion a chance to go through the ducts as a way of "placing faith" in it as a sign of loyalty. Whoops.

My very first time, I lost Mordin and Legion. Mordin died in the vents (I thought the guy could handle it), and Legion died leading the second fireteam.

I never lost anyone, not even the first time.  I explicitly remember Miranda saying: "I can hold the barrier, anyone with biotics can in theory" (or something like that) and me going "oh no you can't, you're a sentinel, not an adept"

The game also makes it abundantly clear who the fireteam leaders should be. Not really sure how the game goes about the vent.. I might've gotten lucky there.

The only one that confuses me is why Zaeed isn't a viable Fire Team leader, considering that that sort of thing is basically his job.

How many of his stories end with "and I was the only one to get out alive?"

Given how Kasumi can pull off the ducts, yeah, that's pretty odd.

My first suicide mission, I lost Mordin and Thane. Look, I assumed the sneaking through ducts part would be more important than the hacking. It was not.

And I hadn't picked up a certain crabby merc at all. So when I took Garrus with me to the Reaper, I doomed Mordin.

I don't remember the exact details, but my first suicide run was a crash and burn event. The second playthrough went a lot better.
