Hawke isn't awesome enough like the Lannisters or Targaryens to pull it off
You sure about that? Because Joffrey came from that ![]()

neither of them really bring much to the table, beyond creepy incest requests
While I do agree with your statement, I find it highly amusing considering your sig.

agreed, plus they need someone to meet up to Tyrion as the third child and let's face it, sarcastic Hawke is not the one.

Is it just me that has them both dead in my canon?
I didn't like to do it, but I sacrificed them both for story reasons. DA2 makes precisely zero sense as a Mage Hawke, so Carver had to die fighting the ogre. I also wanted to side with the Templars, which I couldn't really justify if Bethany was a Circle Mage. And if she's a Grey Warden then she has an awkward habit of popping up regularly and at suspiciously convenient moments - too much so for me to ignore.
I'll probably do playthroughs with each of them alive to see what their DA:I content is (if any), but in my world, Hawke is an only child.

Having them dead makes as much sense. I like some of the lines with Varric on that. And his fury at Bartrand makes a little more sense, since he directly blames him for the Carver/Beth's death.

Actually, I'd argue DA2 made the most sense as a Mage Hawke. Especially if they did cut content that was only for Mage Hawke

I think they're capable of a much better "apostate" game than this. It works well enough, but it's still pretty half assed.

It's the quests with Templars that get to me the most. Specifically Enemies Among Us and The First Sacrifice where you fight right in front of Cullen And Emeric respectively. And they're both completely blind to the fact that you're slinging spells around.

I think I read some time ago that Varric takes care of the Templars in Act 1. After Hawke comes back from the deep roads, they are too rich and famous to get touched. Even more after they become the Champion of Kirkwall.
Its still not ideal, but it does work if you look at it that way.

It doesn't work when you're fighting right in front of Cullen. Bring Carver along and he doesn't want you to act up either. "What are you doing? It's the bloody Knight Captain!"

iirc, the cut content was to revolve around Mage Hawke and Templars and the Viscount

I don't know anything about this content, but if it could've resolved the issue, I don't know why they didn't include it.
I know they have a general rule of thumb that they generally don't want to shut out any players from content (they shy away from class specific stuff), but I think it's a goal that conflicts with good storytelling here.

Then that's a shame. Might have made Mage Hawke a viable option for me, and Carver might have made it to the Templars.
Ah, the sacrifices we make for plot consistency...

Yea I'm not sure why chose to cut it, but it's a shame
Playing a different is suppose to give a different experience and class specific content is a good thing in that regard and good storytelling

In my canon playthrough Hawke is a female rogue with a diplomatic personality so Carver died fighting the ogre and Bethany is alive. 100% friendship. She joined the Circle but now..... I don't know.

There are some things that make sense more as a mage though. I'm just torn. It's kind of all over the place.
For example, I think earning Feynriel's trust and being asked to go into the Fade makes more sense as a mage. This goes beyond the call of duty or simply rescuing a mage from Templars.
I also think Varric's opening dialogue makes more sense as a mage. "The name Hawke has been on many lips these days". He says that regardless of class. And if you have Bethany with you instead, he says he doesn't necessarily need her for the Deep Roads. Apparently you gathered so much attention as a Warrior or Rogue on your own, that you even outshine the mage sibling. Seems iffy to me, but whatever. It just flows better when he dismisses Carver.

Beth is a warden thats one less mage to fight in the war. For the templars since wardens are neutral.

i loved being a mage in DA@ but I also enjoyed playing a warrior. I really hated Carver so in the keep I am going to make my Hawke a warrior and Bethany not joining me to the deep roads so she doesn't become a warden. With the possibility of fighting the wardens in DA:I I don't want to have to kill Bethany. Carver was an ass
