So, this is what all of our Wardens would turn into given time.
BTW, if this is what the Ghouls will look like, it raises my hopes for suitably monstruous Darkspawn.
That is a DA II darkspawn.

A dozen dead darkspawn might be enough to warrant the rest going and kidnapping another woman from some town....
Not likely judging what we know of Darkspawn. Your basic Darkspawn doesn't rationalize and strategize. They don't actively seek out replacement forces, but if they run across women they either kill them or capture them. Also, without a Blight most Darkspawn don't attack the surface (and those that do are generally in small groups) so I don't see them rummaging through a town to replace their lost forces.
Keep in mind there's a distinction between "Warden ghoul" and "regular human ghoul." The Wardens take a lot longer to get to that stage.
Well, we're not really sure on that. The only Warden ghoul's we've seen are Larius and Utha (who was made one by the Architect). I think we need to see a bit more to get a good base line.
Ah, take the Predator route. I like it.

Or Broodmother if you're female.
So Ghouls are a spin-off of Darkspawn?
So Ghouls are a spin-off of Darkspawn?
They are beings who have become exposed to the Darkspawn Taint. To paraphrase a quote from Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, a Darkspawn may saw to a Ghoul:
"You merely adopted the Taint. I was born in it. Molded by it."
So Ghouls are a spin-off of Darkspawn?
They are humans (or elves/dwarves/qunari) who have been tainted and changed by that taint. For instance, if you were a dalish warden in DAO your friend in your origin became tainted, and you could later meat his mostly transformed tainted ghoul self.

Thank you.
So does this mean Ghouls could be awakened?
Thank you.

The Mother is an Awakened Ghoul.

I'm confused lol.

Refering to 'the mother' which was a character in dragon age awakenings.

Broodmothers are Ghouls, not Darkspawn.

Ah. Thanks. I was just confused on who they mean't as in Broodmothers or something else.
Broodmothers are Ghouls, not Darkspawn.
But aren't Ghouls different than Broodmothers?

Well people normally tainted will turn into ghouls. Broodmothers require some special ritual/weirdness in order to happen. No idea how much difference that makes in them.

Than wouldn't they be classified as just Broodmothers instead of Ghouls? Ghouls could be male and female while Broodmothers are only female.

Like Evangeline said, the Broodmothers are specially altered Ghouls that are altered by some sort of Darkspawn ritual. They are forced to eat something the Darkspawn spew into her mouth is all we know.

Just like their are types of animals like for example dogs, there are types of Ghouls.

I just don't get it. Broodmothers to me don't seem like ghouls.

Yeah I don't know if I'd call them exactly the same thing either. We'd probably need to ask for the exact clarification from one of the writers.

They are a special kind of the broader Ghoul range. Like how sled dogs are a special kind of dog.

No, they don't turn into darkspawn. A ghoul is any living creature that has been afflicted with the darkspawn corruption and survived the process-- and there are different stages from your typical (the standard "ghoul" you encounter, or creatures such as the blight wolf or the bereskarn) to the very advanced (the broodmother, a being who has had their corruption artificially accelerated). A darkspawn is a creature that is born from a ghoul, but that's the only way they're created.Tirigon wrote...
Don´t they turn into Darkspawn if they refuse the Calling?
I don´t want to spoiler your books too much to those who haven´t read them yet but there are events who made me think they do.....
Since there are apparently stages of ghoulishness, I'm going to guess the one in the concept art is a late stage ghoul.
Very creepy looking, at any rate.
That is a DA II darkspawn.
Not according to this.

I wonder if there is a distinction between a woman who has been infected with the Taint and a Broodmother.
According to Hespith, captured females are "violated" (altough maybe not in a literal sense) and forced to caniballize men of their races. Does the Broodmother transformation process require this or will all female Grey Wardens eventually turn into Broodmothers?
