If all Grey Warden females would eventually turn into Broodmothers, don''t you thikn the Grey Wardens would cease all recruitment of women?

Seriosly though the Hurlock look's scary as all hell, as opposed to the DA2 hurlock that looked more like a ghoul.

Edit: sorry i though these were the way the normal hurlock in DA:I was gonna look, didn't know they were actully in DA2.

Here's one ingame in DA2.

We have seen many female ghouls. Basic taint doesn't turn them into broodmothers. Special ritual does

Female gray wardens are battle hardened warriors. I am sure theynare aware of what happens and will probably have a murder knife hidden if they somehow managed not to get killed by the dark spawn.

That Hurlock Alpha (not just a regular hurlock) is in DA2. It's the Legacy model/artwork.

Actually since the codex implies that your warden was the first to discover how darkspawn get born (Right? Or am I misremembering) I'm guessing that female wardens can't become broodmothers. You probably need the ritual to happen soon after you first get tainted for it to work.

The player character Warden wasn't the first. Broodmothers were known to the order prior to the events of DA:O. Alistair and the player character just weren't aware of them because they were very junior members of the order.

I thought it was that you discovered how broodmothers were made, not how darkspawn were made?

The codex entry that unlocks says that most of Thedas assumes that prisoners of the darkspawn are either devoured or turned into other darkspawn, but that forays by the Grey Wardens in the Deep Roads discovered broodmothers. I always took that to mean other Grey Wardens, rather than being a vague reference to the player character and Alistair during the events of DA:O.

I'm pretty sure it says "a foray" and not "forays". That's why I always interpreted it as "congratulations, you've just discovered this piece of lore though you would be happier if you hadn't"

You may be right, but I find suspicious that, if Grey Wardens know about them, broodmothers aren't common knowledge. Like, wouldn't they want people to know that?

So, this is what all of our Wardens would turn into given time.

BTW, if this is what the Ghouls will look like, it raises my hopes for suitably monstruous Darkspawn.

Grey Wardens have more secrets than the Chantry does. They keep the Calling itself a secret, they keep how to kill the Archdemon a secret (Archdemon is a totally misleading name btw, since it isn't a demon at all), they down-play that their members are allowed to use blood magic. And they know the location of every Old God. (It's in The Calling)

From two games and a few books we also know that they have more secrets we haven't uncovered yet (What was Nathaniel doing in DA2? Why was there a group of Wardens in Kirkwall during Act 2? What's with all the rumors coming out of the Anderfels now?).

The Wardens aren't big on spreading knowledge, they guard it very closely.

I think the darkspawn of DA:O were monstrous enough.

the darkspawn are something on their own, but yes i thought the design of ghouls in origins was really bad, they just looked like normal people with cloudy eyes and dirt on their face...  much better representation here...  as for the warden's calling, i thought they did a terrible job with the legacy warden, he looks like somebody gave him a bad haircut, i want to see the physical mutations caused by the taint

I wonder if the Hurlocks are that big in game, they seem like they're past 7ft tall, assuming the ghoul is average human height

They look a lot better than in da2, the darkspawn lost their scary/disgusting look. but I liked the ogers charging into a wall and getting stuck!

I would like to see a qunari-broodmother!!

That doesnt explain the excessive height change. They were slightly bigger, now according to the concept art, they tower of qunari

its bioware, they make changes to suit their lavish designer needs....  i mean, they changed the qunari... and if the iron bull horns are put into major production, that makes it twice....

i think they need to seek help for their addiction

We asked David this when DA:O came out and it seemed like a new idea to him.

They could just have them not go into the Dark Roads when they get their Calling
