Grey Wardens have more secrets than the Chantry does. They keep the Calling itself a secret, they keep how to kill the Archdemon a secret (Archdemon is a totally misleading name btw, since it isn't a demon at all), they down-play that their members are allowed to use blood magic. And they know the location of every Old God. (It's in The Calling)

From two games and a few books we also know that they have more secrets we haven't uncovered yet (What was Nathaniel doing in DA2? Why was there a group of Wardens in Kirkwall during Act 2? What's with all the rumors coming out of the Anderfels now?).

The Wardens aren't big on spreading knowledge, they guard it very closely.

Perhaps, but if I wanted to gain support and volunteers I'd certainly drop that the monsters I fight tend to kidnap women and turn them into monster-producing factories (possibly by raping them).

Anyway, I found this:

TUK: Do Grey Wardens still do the Calling, now that they know about Broodmothers? That was a really terrifying revelation in the first game "Oh my god, any women who are down here in the Deep Roads get taken off to spawn horrible monsters!"

DG: They always knew about Broodmothers, but they didn't know where Broodmothers came from. Knowing that...wow, I hadn't really considered whether they'd stop doing the Calling. I think if anything it makes it more problematic for female Wardens to do the Calling. That may be something we could incorporate into the future. It'd be an interesting question. Let's say a female Grey Warden starts to hear her Calling and says "Well, my time has come" and the rest of the Wardens say no, you can't go. You're a woman. You don't deserve to take part in what has been long, for many centuries, held as an honorable tradition, as a way for the Grey Wardens to go out in a way where they retain...I don't know if you read The Calling, the novel. The reason they do the Calling is because there's a tipping point at which the corruption in them starts to affect them physically, so rather than become some kind of ghoul they want to die while they still have their humanity, doing what they've spent the majority of their life dedicated to, killing darkspawn, one last hurrah. To go to a woman and say "No, you can't have this honorable ending because of what might happen to you." I think that would be an interesting story. I think in the end it might be up to the individual Warden. I could definitely see a female Warden who would rather kill herself than allow for the possibility that she could be transformed into a Broodmother.

They could just have them not go into the Dark Roads when they get their Calling

So just execute them? The whole idea with the Calling is that the Grey Warden get to go out with a bit of honour and dignity, instead of ending up a mindless ghoul and eventually succumbing to the Old Gods' call.

Personally I am still of the idea that female Grey Warden cannot become Broodmothers, or that they are too difficult to capture that it doesn't happen.

Hmm... I've gone back to playing Fallout recently so my mind instantly went there when I read "Ghoul".  I'll headcanon that my Warden starts calling people "smoothskin" after the radiation taint takes over her body.

Why not just have the female Grey Warden swallow some slow-acting poison before undertaking her Calling?

Even if she was captured, she wouldn't have to survive long enough to become a Broodmother.

However they do it, I find it highly unlikely that the Grey Wardens would not take proper precautions regarding the matter.

If our warden and Alistair or Loghain was the 1st to discover how brood mothers came to be then I wonder if the other wardens even know about it?

Its only be 10yrs or so since the last blight. If anything, warden comanders and those close to their calling will be given that info.

It'll be especially tragic if a main character in the upcoming novel "the last flight" will end up as a brood mothers. Maybe even DAA Mother.

I'm trying to remember: Did the group in The Calling face Broodmothers?

the ghoul is a male

You think the dark-spawn have nutrition day, and a gym to keep their ghouls in good health, and shape?

Looks female to me. But with a body that seems so wasted away, how can we tell?

Eh doesn't matter. Either way it's getting it's head chopped off by my inquisitor.

no, when they mentioned darkspawn it was always when duncans party was fighting the regular ones and an ogre that one time...  and when it followed the other guy it was mainly focused on those darkspawn digging and the architect... no broodmothers

ah, okay. I know they said Fiona took on some strong type of Darkspawn by herself, but couldn't remember if it was a Broodmother or something else. Thanks. ^_^
