How come the near extinction of the Drell is barely ever mentioned?

My cynical theory is that the Drell were only made so that Thane could be an alien.

And to give Femshep a more multiracial LI option.

To be fair, the Drell don't play a very significant role in the plot. We don't talk about the event that caused the Virtual Aliens to digitize themselves, either.

I'd like for the Virtual Aliens to be in the next game, as well as the Raloi. Nothing wrong with adding more diversity in the MEU.

That's right; there are two alien romance interests for MShep and three for FShep. Ultimately there's only one opposite-gendered human she can end up with while with MShep there are five.

Morning war is ongoing problem - geth are still considered threat, especially after Citadel attack.

Genophage is memento of one of greatest war in known history of our cycle and is still raising emotions on both sides.

Drells are big, but only local catastrophe and thanks to hanars it stayed local (no millions of drell fugitives around Council space).

Using analogy to our history - WWII, attack on Twins or Second war in Gulf still raising emotions, but earthquake in Indonesia (2004) with more then 230 000 causalities is barely mentioned outside affected area now.

Right. The drell catastrophe is sad, but not particularly important to anyone except drell and hanar.

Hanars not being able to wear sweaters is a catastrophe! People know that more than they know about Drell's catastrophe....

I thought Blasto would wear a nice jacket when I saw him. "This one has enkindled multiple females..."

I'm struggling to understand why you're under the delusion that it's somehow a problem to make a character 'alien.'

Yes. In a science fiction story with a heavy focus on aliens, storytellers like to have the player interact with aliens. What a mindblowing concept.

Petrovsky enforced a strict no smoking policy on Omega. He was really uptight.

Odds are, they were completely forgotten about. I don't really care that much. They were never a real thing in the universe anyway.

Oh look, a Blob post that's condescending and intentionally misrepresentative of another's point (or unintentionally dull-witted to miss the point of it) so that he can attack and mock the user.

Funny, I was wondering when you'd come in and start one of your silly, trivial arguments.

I never said I had a problem with aliens.

Are you dense or are you running low on your scoff quota for the month?

Also main point.

It did happen 200 years before the game.  The average person can only be expected to worry about so much galactic history that does not directly impact them. Its like people going up to Shepard and saying, "that first world war must have been so terrible for you".

As for why Thane was created, he was created for the same reason the game was created. Entertainment purposes. The writers got together in a room for a secret meeting, on how best to tell a story to the player.

Well, there were references to lots more races in Citadel space than the major ones we actually met in ME1. Game development being what it is, I wasn't surprised that Bio didn't work up a bunch of models for them, so I figured the drell were there as a sort of token of this.
