Apparently you don't get to even meet or see the new or old council... barely any mention of spectres or the alliance... not being able to continue your ME1 LI... what was the point then of it all.  Why have us make a choice on whether the council lives or dies or who you pick?  Why can't we just break up with our ME1 LI and then start a new romance, why do we have to be punished for 'cheating' on them when they aren't even playing a big role in the game?  Why couldn't we just go to the council and say, 'hey, give me back my spectre status you bastards, I'm Shepherd, Savior of the Whole Galaxy!'  I just don't get it.... :(

Because that stuff might confuse the new shooter fans.

What?! So none of that stuff actually matters?

I just lost a chunk of interest in this game. I'll still orgasm after playing it though.

Taking account of the hundreds of variables that could carry over from ME1 to ME2 would be a coding nightmare.

That's the real answer.

This!

It is a cool way to make old players think what they did matter, yet they need to attract new players.

I am sure though that having played ME 1 is far more better than not having played it.
We will know so much more and there will be dialogue that will bring up things that happened and we will know about it.

They just won't make a HUGE deal out of it cause of what above poster said.

Newcomers...

Think of the ME franchise as a test for the DA franchise. Both have similar goals, but Dragon Age is FAR more ambitious. I think the choices WILL matter, but not in the super OMG way that we are all expecting them to.

For Christ's sake, has no one ever heard of rumors?!

Muckrakers! Muckrakers! And to think we're doing their dirty work for them!

Or maybe the OP has no idea what the hell he's talking about?

Somebody just came out and said they watched the live streams and DID see consequences.

Well they actually give a pretty good reason why you can't count on the council early on in the game.

I read a lot of what I posted on the reviews that have been coming out to today, the UK review and the IGN review I believe mentioned some of these things, like the council playing almost no role and not even seeing them.

This.

Aside some fluff dialogue, actually making gameplay and major plot points change would be an absolute nightmare. There comes a point where a solid narrative has to be established; and it's either giving people fluff dialogue to give the illusion of being special, or establishing a canon (which is what they do if you don't have a ME1 save).

Don't be too hard on Bioware. Mass Effect 2 is still an amazing game, unlike any other we've seen in any gaming generation. Ever. Years from now it's games like this people will look back on and use for inspiration and reference.

I thought the save or let die the council was a big decision in ME1 to be carried over. There seems to be an emphasis on Cerberus in ME2 though really Cerberus is not a power like the Alliance or the Council, just like the mob is not a power like the government. So I don't quite get how Cerberus plays such a major role against the Collectors as oppose to the Alliance or Council.

i've heard countless times from the Dev's that no 2 playthroughs will be the same, and a large majority of your decisions carry over from me1.

what more do you want? it will be awesome, AND replayable!

i'm in!!!!

Making alot of choices more noticeable requires more content. This means more time, money, and memory. ME2 taking up 2 disks is enough for me. It also makes me wonder what ME3 is going to be like.

Also, let's take ME3 into consideration. I highly doubt it is going ot have you continue this Cerberus storyarc. More than likely, it being the third in a trilogy, will wrap back around.

Cerberus for the win

Alliance can go have fun with themselves.
