First off, let me say that I hated the redesign in DA2.  I understand that they wanted to make elves otherworldly and alien-looking, but they went too far.  Humans are supposed to be madly attracted to them, after all.

I use the Ferelden Elves mod (http://www.nexusmods...74&user=1&pUp=1) in Origins now, and I'm quite pleased as to how they look.  They are still obviously not human, but they're still pretty/handsome.

I'm really hoping that in DA:I they tone down the redesign a bit, in the same way they are toning down the super anime weapon swing speed.

P.S.  I also love the Qunari update mod (http://social.biowar...m/project/4592/).  It makes Sten's incongruous "softie" personality that much more endearing.   :)

I think Zevran mentions that elves are considered beautiful by humans

Are those renders how they will appear in game?  Or are they just concepts for the builders?  Sorry, I'm not game-developer savvy.  :)

Hm, it seems that they are not keeping the straight noses.

These are probably the high poly meshes used for baking normal maps.

I think Sera has still got some of the DA2 elf nose going on

at least she have proportioned arms. and head. the proportions of DA2 Elves are bugging me quite a lot while replayng DA2. Fenris is the only Elf with an at least non anorexic/child body.

DA2 Elves have shoulders undeveloped that bug me even more than the Megamind head and the strange nose. I'm very very happy of the redesign.

That dose not mean Humans are madly in love though some of the Humans hate Elves

Leliana also menions the reason why elves are preferred serfs in Orlais is because "they are dextoruos, and pleasing to look at"

Yeah that's how I felt too. I had no problem with the nose even though I didn't really like it. It was the body proportions that got me. Like you said the elves had shoulders and arms that you'd see on a young child but they had an adult sized head and body height. (and I hated the lightbulb head too ugh)

I had no problem with "humans with pointy ears" since they can have viable children with humans, that would make them another race not another species and to me they shouldn't look extremely different in that case. Real world races don't look that different from each other. The differences you see are things like height, skin color, and differently proportioned facial features (but not extremely so) there's no race that randomly looks like a preying mantis :D. In DA:O the cultures of both city elves and Dalish were interesting and made you want to know more or to sympathize with them. In DA2 those cultural things were taken out and instead they just looked different and had no substance and the city elves had no difference than the rest of the people living in lowtown.

Honestly, I much preferred the DA2 design to the Origins design. In Origins, they were literally one head shorter humans with pointy ears. At least in 2 they looked like their own race. But luckily from what we can see in Sera, it seems the took the strengths of both and put them together.

One of my 'top 5 things' I look forward to in this game is making an elf in the CC.  The new design looks promising.

I like using that mod too.   It's a nice balance of DA:O/DA2 styles (which is what I think they are going for in DA:I).

Well they also had a smaller skinnier build but I see your point. I still think DA2 was worse though, some of them looked ridiculous and even Merrill's body proportions looked completely wrong.

I like the idea behind it, but I think the person who made it has a waaay narrow definition of 'generally attractive' even outside the accepted requirement of big-ass eyes. But that's me being pretty pedantic for what is otherwise a decent-looking mod. I feel like it's worth mentioning tho on the extreme off-chance a dev happens to see this.

ETA: Also, I really wish they'd release colored defaults for all the species, because they greyness makes the elves look to me like they're just Scandinavian with elf ears and the DA2 nose-bridges. Which is deeply frustrating for me, since I'm normally pretty good at taking apart the structure of a face.

General lore about Elves seems to be that they are considered beautiful by humans. Regardless, the Elves in DA2 were pretty scary IMHO. I also found it weird that Sten was Qunari, but he looked nothing like the Qunari in DA2.

I know this is a fantasy, but the dramatic change in looks from DA:O to DA2 for Elves, Qunari, Alistair and Zevran, really bugs me.

From what I have seen so far, we will be yet again seeing some significant changes in DA:I. Morrigan, Cullen, Varric and Cassandra look different to me (and less attractive IMO) and I think we will see yet another evolution of the Elves and Qunari.

oH my...

lol, oops bad wording. I did mean structurally Scandinavian. I just can't shake the impression that they're blond and blue-eyed and enjoy seasoning a variety of things with dill. i have no idea why.

It's one more for the pile of terrible retcons in DA2. The halfass explanation is that Sten is a super special rare hornless Qunari and in their culture being born without horns means you're the special chosen one destined for greatness

All of those guys in Sten's unit who got massacred by hurlocks were also superrarespecialdestinedgreatone Qunari as luck would have it

Same with the Qunari sarrebas working with Marjolaine. :D

Then again, those dudes were tough. That was their moment of greatness.

Well think of it as how some cultures saw albinos as magic or lucky. And it's not luck that his unit was all like him, they were specifically are put with him because of their minor genetic oddity.

I'm reminded of that DS9 episode when the crew got kicked back to Captain Kirk's timeline. "Trials and Tribblations". It shows the old 60s version of Klingons, and everyone asks Worf "Wtf?"

"We don't talk about that."
