I didn't mind DA2 elves--anything other then DA:O elves I would have accepted. But the concept art (i guess that's what it would be called) for DA:I elves looks amazing, particularly the female elf. Now we just have to hope we can actually get a character to be as pretty as she is with the DA:I CC.

But I do prefer the Elves in DA:I from picture's I've seen so far.

It just occurred to me that the elves in DA2 looked so horrifying simply because Varric is a racist. After all, the entire game is his story, right? So that's how he described the elves to Cassandra. Bah, and here I liked the guy. ![]()
Anyway, that's my head canon now. And off I go to uninstall that mod for Origins so I can lust after Zevran again. ![]()
And yes, I loved the Warhammer Online elves, especially the way their hair was done. I was totally in love with my Swordmaster's flowing locks when he ran. What I don't get is why artists give them Spock eyebrows. LotRO's designers did the same thing.

Warhammer Fantasy and 40k Elves and Eldar are really cool looking, they have some of the best elves around, imho. They have just the right amount of attractive while looking alien enough to be off-putting if you look too long.

This is how I explain most of what happened in DA2 that is dumb - it's just Varric messing with Cass, or straight up lying.
Cass: "You expect me to believe the bandits jump down at you from the sky?"
Varric: "Yes, Seeker, that's how it happened... I swear!"
And they do that with the brows now because, "Spock had pointed ears, so he's just space elf right? So because he has eyebrows like that, land elves should too..."

Makes sense. But I wouldn't say he's a racist. After all, he liked Merrill, and she's beautiful by his account. Same goes for Fenris. Other elves are more or less jus "skinny strange looking folk with knife-ears", because Varric simply doesn't care to go beyond that. ))

Humans with pointy ears...
I was to write something sarcastic about all the design decisions BioWare did, but I remembered how much I hate others whinning on forums all the time... ![]()

Erm, I didn't mean he actually said that, it's just that those two look way better than random elves, is all. )) Though he does call Merrill "Daisy", and watches over her so she doesn't get into trouble, that's why I take it he likes her. With Fenris it's a bit more complicated, but he stands up for his sister because he cares what killing her might do to the broody elf. ))

maybe the fact that he cares for them is the motive because they are some of the few watchable elves in Kirkwall...

So just because he cares for them he's not racist? Please try to think of an example in the real world. "All ___s look the same to me, but I have a ___ friend." The two are not mutually exclusive.

Nah, it's because he cares for them he describes them to Cas in detail. And like I said before: Other elves are more or less just "skinny strange looking folk with knife-ears", because Varric simply doesn't care to go beyond that. And just because he doesn't care to praise the elven beauty doesn't mean he's racist. ))

Really? So if I describe all ___ as butt ugly, I'm not a racist? That seems obvious to me. But oh well, I'm not going to argue about it any more. And yes, I consider Merrill and Fenris butt ugly along with all the others.

(picturing a butt with knife-ears): You've some pretty weird concept of butt, buddy. But you really should've comment on Merrill and Fenris from the get-go, would've saved us both fairly silly argument. Obligatory gif, incoming:

Yeah that's how I felt too. I had no problem with the nose even though I didn't really like it. It was the body proportions that got me. Like you said the elves had shoulders and arms that you'd see on a young child but they had an adult sized head and body height. (and I hated the lightbulb head too ugh)
I had no problem with "humans with pointy ears" since they can have viable children with humans, that would make them another race not another species and to me they shouldn't look extremely different in that case. Real world races don't look that different from each other. The differences you see are things like height, skin color, and differently proportioned facial features (but not extremely so) there's no race that randomly looks like a preying mantis
. In DA:O the cultures of both city elves and Dalish were interesting and made you want to know more or to sympathize with them. In DA2 those cultural things were taken out and instead they just looked different and had no substance and the city elves had no difference than the rest of the people living in lowtown.
Except that there is currently only one real-world human race. "Race" is more of a social or political term, as there really aren't much genetic differences among humans. And there are still some debates among scientists as to wether neanderthals were a different race or not.

Since I read The Masked Empire after (just finished it today actually) these images were released, I kept picturing Briala as this elf. I kind of liked her more. Especially since picturing an elf from DAO or DA2 just isn't that satisfying.

She kind of looks like Natalie Dormer: beautiful, but looks like she's killed somebody after they witnessed her massacre an entire group of shems.

I know this is a fantasy, but the dramatic change in looks from DA:O to DA2 for Elves, Qunari, Alistair and Zevran, really bugs me.
Alistair has just been drinking and eating too much. You know, "it´s good to be a king" (with bossy wife) kind of way.

Nah... I think the elf looks a lot better than her. The elf has that royalty look about her.
