I feel like this isn't going to go anywhere, at least not anywhere good.

Horrible action, pls..

Amazingly people might feel differently about killing actual people than you do. Only murder I would endorse would be by the state (or by one's own hands if they're killing themselves).

Contrary to popular belief playing violent video games doesn't make you some loon that wants to hurt actual people. Some of us know the differences between fictional worlds and reality.

Hense:

"For a lot of people video games actually provide options to do things that they can't do irl without consequences or are simply unable to do in the first place. "

So, What you are basically saying is Gamers want to kill game characters, in a game without any real life getting in the way and somehow this is the same as killing people irl?

I'd like the option to put Cullen on the executioners chopping block due to what he did in the DAO epilogue & his flip flop character development in Kirkwall.

As long as Bioware don't go "Oh, you only though you killed whoever, but they are still alive because we decided they still have plot relevance in the next game so they can't die" I'll be grand.

Also, the options to kill certain people should be there for world building, not for re playability.

The devs said that those epilogues were just rumors and are disproved by DA2. Call it a retcon if you like but they are no longer part of his back story.

Really? That's one way around it I guess. Hope I get to quiz him on it at least, see what excuses they wrote for him to get out of that one

I will kill the ones that deserve it. If I am betrayed or exploited or manipulated, they are going to feel my wrath.

I don't want to kill anyone straight from the start and I don't want to murder knife anyone either. However if someone did something I can't approve and doesn't stand down then I will them like my canon Hawke did with Anders. I doubt I'll kill anyone though this time, though if there is "Judas"-character I might have to kill her/him.

*facepalms* You can not want to kill someone because it's a horrible action and messy and has absolutely diddly squat to do with consequences.

Some people are more accustomed to killing than others. Death is never pretty, but sometimes you don't have much of a choice. I wouldn't call it a wrong action per se.

We're discussing a game though. It's different. You can roleplay different kinds of characters, from goody two shoes to ruthless death machines. Not all people self-insert. That said, I don't want to kill anyone. I don't even know most of the companions, and I'd need a practical reason to kill them.

If the companion were a complete irredeemable a**hole (like Rendon Howe or Vaughan Kendalls), then sure.  I doubt we'll get a companion that is so black and white, though, so I probably won't.

If DA:I is going to feature forced companions like DA2, then I'd probably want to murder-knife one or more of them.

Not technically a companion but, Cullen. I'll kill him in the most thorough, visual, and gruesome way they let me. If it's impossible to kill him in game... I'll outright forever be disappointed in bioware for making such a despicable character who's in every game. Who's role is predetermined no matter your import, and yet never making it possible to do anything more than insult him.

That wasn't one of the epilogues that were a rumor. And they've yet to explicitly say if they retconned your choice in that matter or if they made it just not effect his role in da2.

True but some people are just not made for actually killing people. I'll beat the crap out of someone in a heartbeat I'm not gonna kill them though. **** I have freaking nightmares about minor crap I did. Why would I want to add killing someone to that list? (I'm not saying never but I certainly won't kill someone with the cavalier attitude BW PCs do and it would take some pretty messed up crap for me to do it in the first place).

Fair enough.

Aside from Varric and Cassandra we barely know anything about the companions yet, and i certainly don't wanna kill those 2. So i got nothin'.

I'll probably do one playthrough where i kill as many as i can though.

maybe I'd like an optional quest to sacrifice our companions in order to get a boost in stats, money, unlock a new specialization or allies

Don't have any "Must kills" yet.

But that can change if they annoy me, betray me, ect.

Not all, not for everybody, and there are plenty more different video games. Again if you are really ROLEPLAYING, you shouldn't tell the difference between death in a video game and irl, because otherwise it's not roleplaying.

No that's taking the game too seriously.

or in worse cases not being able to separate reality from fantasy.

Games don't change your mindset, I'm just saying that some people like to live an artificial life that is more fun and/or allows for actions not possible irl.

There is only one criteria needed for murder - disagreement on fundamental principals of life. When people really care about some things, but view those things very differently there are only two ways things play out 1. One individual/group submits to another individual/group understanding that they cannot win the fight. 2. One individual/group kills the other.

Most people don't come into direct contact with that because there are things like police and army that do the killing for their safety.

I can separate things very easily, but I enjoy REAL roleplaying, actually imagining myself in protagonist shoes. It makes the journey more fun for me.

Oooh. I wonder what it says about my personality, if I stomped on a hundred toadstool heads in Super Mario Bros?
