I'm against letting the player kill absolutely anyone and everyone. That would make for a worse story and make all companions just sidekicks that don't matter in the main storyline. And I really prefer companions who matter in the main storyline and aren't just along for the ride because they have nothing better to do.

What would DAO be like if you could kill Alistair and Morrigan in Lothering. A lot more boring imo. And you have problems when you want to bring a character back like Leliana.

Then they should have a very good reason to stay, VERY good. We should absolutely need them storywise.

No one forces you to drag them along and nope that doesn't make da more boring in fact you can spend 3/4 game not talking to alistair and kick out morrigan at any moment. In fact companions in dao weren't forced and were much more more interesting than those from da 2 that were forced (yeah rly forced).

I'd probably play a mage with a libertarian slant at this point so I can easily see myself killing of a companion if things escalates to a certain point. I'm pretty tolerant but won't bend over for those overbearing authority figures. The nutcases I'd have a low tolerance for as well.

Still, if they want to give us the options to kill off a character they need to make sure to end their story arch at least. That or leave their death heavily implied if they wish to bring them back.

Why would you kill the person that your LI cheated on you with? They did nothing wrong, that's silly. Just kill the ex LI.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I wouldn't kill anybody over sex, seems an overkill to me.

Anyway, all conflicts come from disagreements. Let's say RandomBandit wants to take your stuff, RandomDarkspawn wants to kill you, RandomBear wants to eat you. You are certainly entitled to kill them because you disagree with them

Leliana want kill you if you destroy ashes same wynne why because they disagree with you. Sebastian want burn kirkwall because he disagree with you on not killing anders.Sirgun and Justice want kill you if you spare architect because they disagree with you. Anders blow up chantry because that is his vision. Many companions turn on you in the end of da 2 because you took decision incompatible with ther views. Simple sparing mage freedom terrorist for anti-mage is dumb idea.

Disagree with you yes, but I've never had one companion try to kill me, I'll kill in self defence, that's it.  That's what I meant when I said "choice dependent", I've never defiled the ashes, if I had then yes, I'd have no choice but to kill Leliana and Wynne.  But at the end of DA2...no one tries to murder you, well not me anyway, they've just left.  Sebastian threatening to burn down Kirkwall is just that, a threat, has he done it?  If he got all up in my face with his bow, that's different...

I didn't say you were forced to drag them along, I said they were unkillable. So even if you don't talk to them or whatever Morrigan comes back, Alistair stays in the camp and you have the various ending choices available.

I had as i said companions want to kill you because 90 % they disagree with you i don't see reason why i shouldn't strike first instead wait that pro-mage will backstabb me for anti-mage behavior like Anders did...

If you like wait to moment where companions betray you your pick i don't i prefer strike my enemies first.

Eee merril and anders try to kill you if you chose help templars and Fenris and Aveline same just aveline leaves in last moment but still she brought guards to kill you and left them to do her job.

Still it doesn't make game any more intresting as i said you can ignore them 3/4 of game and killing morrigan would just not allow for DR pretty much still you could keep them it is your choice i don't see reason to not kill morrigan.

Nah, I was just kidding. There is no point in killing, that won't bring the relationship back, and the loss of it is what really matters.

Breakup is just such a failure, I don't even know how it can happen if you pay attention to what you and your significant other do and want.

Some of the comments make me very happy that the number of companions we can kill off is probably going to be limited.  We can tell them (most, if not all) to take a long walk off a short pier, but I wouldn't expect nor hope to kill them off.

TKS, never let it be said that your determination to get your voice and views heard is lacking.  You shine on, you crazy diamond you.

How about working for the enemy, attacking you, or doing monstrous things?

Disagreeing with you is a poor reason for someone to deserve to die

Agreed. That's a really stupid reason to kill a NPC.

Tell them to bounce over disagreements though perfectly understandable.

I really do hope we can ask most of the party to bounce and not have companions around that my PC clearly can't stand for ~reasons~

We don't know any other character except for Varric so I see no point in asking such a question.

Based on the general... oddness of this thread, I'm going to close 'er down because I'm mostly in agreement with the quoted post.
