In my installation (weidu log shown in BG2 no-reload thread) the game hung right at the beginning.

For some reason I had been unable to install the fixpack. Could that be the reason for the game hanging?

If BGT, probably due to either an incorrect transition or Jaheira/Minsc being killed and removed from the party during BG1. That problem shouldn't occur with the more recent versions of BGT, but you never know.

If no BGT, my guess would be a problem with Check the Bodies. The fixpack should be installed before Check the Bodies.

It will be Check the bodies. Thank you. :)

Rather annoying as the installation took almost a day. :(

At least ToB was working so I know that various other parts of the installation are OK.

Does the game actually "hang" or does Imoen simply not appear? If it's the latter, cheat yourself out of the cage using Control + J. There have been reports in the past of Imoen being stuck. Initiating dialogue with her might solve the problem.

If the CtB cut scene doesn't appear at the start, it's most definitely a CtB issue.

She didn't appear and because of that perhaps, I couldn't do anything. I have reinstalled and this time installed fixpack Ok and CTB. I will check the installation regularly to make sure that things are Ok. Apparently an NPC mod sometimes caused problems but that is supposed to have been fixed.

I take it that it is difficult.

Should probably be done as the last thing before fighting Jon at the Tree of Life. Last boss is far, far more difficult than SCS Hell Jon on insane difficulty.

In that case, perhaps I will leave it out of my installation. Third of the way through now! :)

You only just warned me in time.

I recommend that mod. It's great fun and entirely optional. You just might want to skip it in a no reload.

After I've played a few times without it, I was wondering if it would be possible to install it on top of my current installation, or would it be likely to be buggy?

It shouldn't cause any issues. Notice that the PC needs to be a mage (dual- and multiclass is ok) or sorcerer.. The read me advises lvl 20 + and i suggest you take that advice seriously.

I have now discovered the problem.

It is the changes made to Imoen in the Subrace mod that causes her not to appear.

That has not been a problem in previous installations, so I presume there is a conflict between that mod and another, the Imoen romance perhaps? I have never installed that before.

Anyway. I have not installed the part of the mod that changes NPCs and it is now working fine.

Will now re-install the rest of the mods. :)

Finding the problem was NOT easy!!!

Got a repeat of the problem when installing Imoen the conjurer. Obviously there is a mod in there that doesn't like Imoen being changed.

Cross with myself for overwriting the files instead of renaming them first!

Have to re-install, AGAIN!!!

However, this time since I know the cause of the problem, I can avoid it! :D

I think that I will not install the Imoen Romance and see if that is the problem. I'm not too bothered about that mod anyway.

I'd avoid the Imoen romance mod like the plague. It's even creepier than Saerileth. However: i've installed it in the past, without the mod causing any problems. I do remember vaguely that a NEJ component that gave Imoen a custom kit (Charming Rogue) did cause some problems in the past.

I can understand that. Not only were they raised as bother and sister, but they actually were half-brother and half-sister genetically as well. :(

Where I lived in Asia, teenagers from the same church would'nt date each other because they felt like brother and sister even though they weren't! They even called each other brother and sister, though that was more in the sense that communists and socialists use the term.

Confirmed.

It is the Imoen romance that was causing the problem.

It doesn't like any other mod that alters Imoen.

The Sub-race mod now works as it normally does, bugs and all.

I quite liked the Imoen romance.

Not only were they raised as bother and sister, but they actually were half-brother and half-sister genetically as well. :(

Surely the PC was raised by Gorion while Imoen was raised by 'Puffguts'?

Hm. How well do you understand genetics?

Extremely simplistically, every cell in your body carries a copy of your DNA. DNA comprises two strands, one from your mother, and one from your father. These strands are redundant, in that if it were 'perfect', you would only need one strand in order to produce a viable person.

When you procreate, you contribute half of your DNA to your progeny. This is either your mother or your father's, at random. The other half of your progenys DNA comes from your partner.

DNA is used as a template to produce protein factories called RNA. The proteins in turn determine just about everything about you, from the colour of your eyes, to how well your blood transports oxygen. If a chunk of DNA in one strand is defective, it will produce a defective or non-functional factory, and in turn a defective or non-existent protein. However, because of the redundant nature of the strands, there should be a second protein factory which hopefully is producing viable proteins.

If siblings produce a child together, there is an extremely high chance of severe genetic problems, assuming it lives. This is because there is a 50% chance that the child will have two nearly identical strands of DNA, so any defective protein factories are not backed up by working ones. Even if the child gets one strand originally from its grandmother and one originally from its grandfather, DNA is pretty dynamic, so there is a high chance that some segments may both be from the same grandparent. Really kids, don't try this at home, there are really good reasons why this is a taboo.

So far so good, but we're talking about Bhaal. A god. Have you noticed that Bhaal had quite a lot of children? Quite a lot of VERY DIFFERENT children? Looking only at the 6 end bosses from ToB, we have an elf, a half-orc, a fire giant, a drow, a dragon, and a human.

Back to genetics. What race would Bhaal have to be in order to produce these children? Correct, divide by cucumber error. Bhaal is not contributing genetic material to his spawn, or they would all have some common race. Clearly all genetic material is from the mother, while Bhaal contributes some divine essence. Genetically the progeny are clones of their mothers.

So, should you romance Imoen? Genetically there is absolutely no reason why you should not procreate. Socially, well as the mod creator says, it's really not easy to romance her. Plus there is a perfectly good friendship track as well, so I don't think the mod deserves the hate it typically gets.
