I don't know if this has been covered already, but upon reading the information on mounts, I've wondered what will happen with our companions. Will they have to run after us, like poor peasants? Or will they come equipped with their own steed?

I know in Skyrim, someone implemented a mod, where your followers could blow a horn and their horse would materialize on the spot, so we didn't have to wait for them to find theirs when we just wanted to be on our way. But it also begs the question on if we'll have mounted combat, or just immediately jump off when enemies show up.

Either way, it's just something to consider. :)

As far as the combat is concerned I do not think you will automatically have to get off but I do believe you will have to get off in order to engage anyone.  Especially if your companions disapear.

Oh, this never entered my head. I guess each companion has a generic mount for them to ride on while you enjoy your more colorful mount.

The Inquisitors riding solo in the latest trailer on horseback. Which may mean the companions disappear when on a mount. If this is true then ill never use a mount since travelling with my companions is the highlight of Dragon Age for me.

From what I've heard the companions disappearing is exactly what happens when you get on your mount.

Saw the title and assumed this was a romance thread.

I suddenly got a picture in my head:

varric duing the split on the back of a huge horse charging across a field, varric buoncing like crazy shouting   how the hell do you stop it!!

While the rest of the party is rolling on the ground laughing.

The devs haven't actually answered this yet? I wish they would just so people stop asking about it. Also I probably wont be using the mount if they disappear because then I could miss a lot of banter...

Same here. If companions disappear, I'll probably not use mounts. Maybe lately in game but just for long distances and in already explored areas. It would be pitty. I'm so excited about our horses, halla etc. and now (if disappearing is the case) I will have to cut one or another.

I hope they each get their own unique mount that we can upgrade through better saddles and whatnot. Like Solas on a halla, and the bearded Warden on a sturdy warhorse. Or that we can buy all sorts of mounts and assign them to party members.

If they just disappear I'll walk everywhere.

At least a while ago the devs said that it would be disappearing companions.

No they didn't.

This topic came up before, and there was a dev post about it. If I could remember or had bookmarked the thread, I would point to it. I believe it was on the BSN.

Not sure about DA, but disappearing companions seems like it would've worked well in a game like Skyrim. I hated traveling somewhere via horseback only to arrive and need to "wait" several hours before my friend traveled the distance by foot.

In DA, I wonder if the companions would continue to talk while they're in "invisible mode" ... and whether that opens up the possibility that Quizzy is just imagining their existence to begin with.

Which one? (I don't doubt you - it seems plausible - but it would be useful to have a source for this.)

THAT would be great. I took it for granted before the disappearing discussion. Now, I worry I'll have to go on foot.

Hope in one hand... I forgot how the rest of that goes, but it doesn't end well I think.

I'm guessing one of two things will happen. The party will vanish into the "Ether" and you're supposed to just assume they're following you as a suspension of disbelief. This approach has the advantage of having the party ready immediately if you dismount for combat, and obviously the countless technical issues that are resolved by "Opting out" of a more difficult solution like full party mounts. (Which would be awesome but... I'm skeptical)

Second option would just have the party following you like normal (On foot), but obviously way slower. The pathfinding probably isn't all that bad, and if the Party is out of high LOD or character draw, they can just frame-jump or traverse the un-rendered Abyss Artorias style. They can probably teleport around as a "Failsafe" measure like Mass Effect.

I'm not crazy about this whole disappearing thing, when on a mount. Especially if they still have travel dialogue, but now in a disembodied voice instead.

In many online games (WoW, The Elder Scrolls Online, etc.) these days, people who follow you run after you. It would be cool if our companions also have mounts in Dragon Age: Inquisition. It would add a more pleasant medieval feel there.

As for dismounting during combat, World of Warcraft (WoW) addresses this by having the enemy knocks you down when hit. In the Elder Scrolls Online, you have to dismount yourself when entering battle; when an enemy hits you, if you are mounted, your horse slows down to a snail pace.

What I would prefer, though, is to have the ability to not slow down if I did not desire to engage that encounter; I would want to speed up instead, lol. Conversely, if I wish to engage that enemy, I would like to dismount my mount myself. ;)

I thought this was addressed by a dev that you can only use your mounts in certain areas, and companion banter wouldn't exist in these zones to avoid the problem of missed banter...  Either my hallucinations are very specific, or I'm positive I read this somewhere.
