I thought this was addressed by a dev that you can only use your mounts in certain areas, and companion banter wouldn't exist in these zones to avoid the problem of missed banter...  Either my hallucinations are very specific, or I'm positive I read this somewhere.

People seem to keep referencing hearing it somewhere, but no one has yet to provide a source. So until someone does, seems to still be speculation to me, if that's the case...

The party will vanish into the "Ether" and you're supposed to just assume they're following you as a suspension of disbelief.

Fade and reality are merging, anything could happen.

Even teleportation.

Eww, it will be terrible! I hope them to have their own mounts.

Hope Bioware do give companions there own mounts. Would kinda be funny to see Varric on a pony mount.

If there is teleportation, I hope it doesn't go further than that one move in Kingdoms of Amalur where you can just flash past an enemy and end up behind them. But for a full blown teleportation outside of the Eluvians, ehhh...I could personally do without them.

Which one? (I don't doubt you - it seems plausible - but it would be useful to have a source for this.)

Sorry, I can't find it. I can never find sources.

If companions don't have mounts, I hope they run behind us. Only a short distance behind, not like on Skyrim where they (albeit realistically) fell really far behind.

I'd rather not have them disappear since I love the feel of adventuring with others, and it would make the banter bizarre if it appeared out of nowhere and I had to stop and dismount to get the proper experience.

Honestly I do half wonder if there will be certain areas where riding a mount would be really, really obvious like just a wide expanse of pure...nothing.  So then you can ride your mount because obviously your companion will not be able to comment and banter on anything or with eachother.  Or there will be certain sanctioned riding areas and it will not be as free form, again so you can get to a scripted event faster but at the same time do not lose out on any companion banter.

Though if it is free form, IE you can get on a mount any time you want other then combat, then I really expect a lot of people won't use them much the first play through but as they become more accustomed to where companions banter and where they don't you will see the use of mounts increase.  That is probably how I am going to do it.

If the companions vanish while mounted I won't use mounts, though really I can't see that being the case as vanishing people is very hard to explain in-game.

I just imagine that Varric would be the one to comment on it if you end up walking in an area where you're 'supposed to use' a mount--he'd passive aggressively complain about it the whole trip.

Varric on a Clydesdale while Bull sits on a minihorse. (As they are smaller than ponies) I would just die from laughing if I saw it. Poor horse though.

That or you hear them complaining..

Can we stop to rest.

No.

Your on a horse while we have to run behind you.

So.

And this is why I was better off with Hawke.

Same here. If companions disappear, I'll probably not use mounts. Maybe lately in game but just for long distances and in already explored areas. It would be pitty. I'm so excited about our horses, halla etc. and now (if disappearing is the case) I will have to cut one or another.

After BioWare said that most of the "banter trigger-points" will be in areas expected to go on foot, I'm opened for it again.

And me out of likes.

Pretty sure anyone who doesn't want to use mounts will be able to skip it.

I know it's highly unlikely but I'd really like to see someone mod it in for PC later on. Would love to see companions on horseback with my Kossith character at front, on his badass wyvern mount.

It's already been said that Companions vanish while you're mounted, due to pathing issues. It's also ALSO already been stated that places where you can mount, companion conversations won't fire, so we're never going to miss out on companion conversations by BEING mounted. So rest easy folks, you can still mount and not miss anything... and in the case of vanishing companions you can always head cannon that they're all piled on the mount with you/they're riding Iron Bull :P
