I have a problem with file transfer. I started mass effect on a local profile( account?) and was wondering if i can transfer this to my xbox live account. I don't want to play all over again and was hoping the community can help.

Ooh, from what I know, that is not possible. You have to have started that particular save on the account that "is" Xbox LIVE. Did you start that save on a separate account but then you made another account which is your actual account right now? If so, you can't since it is attached to the profile of that account. Same goes for PlayStation 3.

Mass Effect 1 is one of the games that Microsoft let you transfer saves to a new profile. Though if you do so you can't gain ME1 achievements while using it.

Sign-in with the new profile and go to Settings/System/Storage/device with your save/Games and Apps/Mass Effect.

When in that folder find a save near the end, preferably the auto-save from the fight with Saren at the end, and select it with A.

You'll now be on a screen with Copy, Move, and Delete as options. Below them you'll see which profile 'owns' the save and the warning about not being able to earn achievements in the game if using it.

So pick Copy and then where you want to save it to.

Once that is done you'll be able to start Mass Effect 1 and load that new save from within the game. Play to the end again in order to create the import save and you'll be able to import that Shepard into Mass Effect 2 (where you will be able to gain achievements.)
