Well seeing as she takes it before Inquisition then his assignment can't have been to spy on the Inquisitor. What was his assignment before, he's a mercenary isn't he?
I guess it could have been to spy on other Tal-Vashoth but that wouldn't really matter to Orlais.
I hope he isn't a spy because I am actually looking forward to meeting a Tal-Vashoth properly who isn't just going to attack you on sight.

He is vashoth not tail vashoth. Vashoth have left the Qun, Tal Vashoth actively fight the Qun.
According to the Wiki he's Tal-Vashoth, not saying that is an accurate source but where is yours?
Who said he doesn't actively fight the Qun?
It seems like Tal-Vashoth is more of an ideology than an occupation and they are not a single group so they don;'t all behave in the same way or have the same goals. Many of them do become mercenaries as we saw on DAO because they have no other skills.
So whether or not he is Tal-Vashoth would seem to depend entirely on how he defines himself and what his opinion of the Qun is.

I'm pretty sure that Iron Bull is Tal-Vashoth. I think he is a leader of a Tal-Vashoth Mercenary group meaning they attack the Qun.

Isn't it the other way around, the Qunari attack the Tal-Vashoth because the Qun tells them they have to while the Tal-Vashoth just want to be free from the Qun and end up being slaughtered for it.

No no. Just like everyone says, he's Tal-Vashoth. The vashoth don't know anything about the Qun and quite frankly could care less about it.

If he's Tal Vashoth, I can't wait to hear his perspective.

Personally I believe everyone on the list Tallis gets is a human or elf or dwarf. They make much better spies than Tal-Vashoth. Afterall 95% of Thedas knows absolutely nothing about the Qunari beyond 'Big, Horned, Short-tempered', so they wouldn't know Tal-Vashoth even existed, much less if there was any difference between them.

He is Tal Vashoth. Which means he left the Qun.
Vashoth are those born outside of the Qun, and where never a part of it to begin with.

Those born out of the Qun are bas, Vashoth are those who leave and Tal-Vashoth are those who oppose it (or technically just what they call themselves).
I think our quizy is Vashoth simply because he/she is of the qunari race so would be considered part of Qunari society even though he/she never was.
Vashoth seems to have become the new Kossith when it comes to Qunari confusion.

"Mary tells me that the PC would technically just be Vashoth. Either way, it's a distinction that's only going to be relevant to the Qunari themselves. Everyone else will simply say "Qunari", no matter where you were born."
I was refering to the inquisitor sorry if I wasn't specific. I have no idea on Iron Bull since we know little about him, but I thought one of the in game pieces of lore said that Tal-vashoth actively reject the Qun and attack it? All we know is that iron bull is a merc leader, no Qun to actively fight against in the part of Thedas that DAI takes place in.

I was under the impression that Tallis' list was people who USED to be spies.
Recall, she's disobeying her orders to get the list (hence, not a true member of the Qun, lore-breaking, all around weak character, etc.). The members of the Qun don't care if others see the list.
Thus, the list does NOT have active dissidents on it.

Again David Gaider:
"What I don't like is people referring to "Kossith" as if it's a term that everyone should know-- as opposed to something that's been barely mentioned in-game. People also use it incorrectly, using Kossith when what they actually mean is Tal-Vashoth.
It's also not a term the Qunari would use themselves. If you want to refer to the horned race, it's Qunari. Members of their religion who are not also part of the horned race are generally called Viddathari. If you really want to say "Kossith", that's up to you-- we can hardly stop you, and I've no idea why you'd care about what we think-- but it's a little annoying when people roll out "Kossith" first, when everyone would know what they're talking about if they just said "Qunari"."

I just meant it seems to be causing as much confusion on the forum as Kossith.

Ok, I thought you were talking about Iron Bull. From what I have read it said that it's kind of up to the Tal-Vashoth how much about the Qun they reject and what they do to combat it. Allot of them do devote their lives to fighting it and others reject it in other ways I guess.

It seems to me that the qunari would be more inclined to use human, elven, and dwarven sleeper agents to avoid suspicion.

I'd hope Iron Bull has something to offer on the Tal Vashoth angle at least. It'd be lame if he's just a merc. This is the Inquisition, after all. Not a generic band of adventurers. There must be some deeper reason for him to be there.
