The trailer where Shepard gets the distress call but shuts it off and goes to a different planet. The idea of complete customization had a lot to do with my interest also.

1. I could play as a female. I like to give any game that lets me play as what I am a chance.
2. RPG with guns, not nearly enough of these. I love RPGs and I like shooters so heck yeah.
3. BioWare Game. I have a lot of faith in their games.

for a very long time i've always been playing Sonic and Mario games
and then for a few years i just disappeared from the game system
and just stuck to basketball (gotta stay black yall! lol)
but when i started working (and then fired) from walmart in 2007
i saw MASS EFFECT just sitting there behind the glass
so when i was off my shift and going home, i bought the game before i left
little did i know this game was officially going to be my "god of war" or call of duty, or halo
it's the gameplay and storyline that heavily attracted me
so much to the point where i actually WISH i was working with the BioWare Company right freaking NOW!
JUST a long time of playing mass effect and never still NOT getting tired of the game everytime i play
i play it not only to just enjoy the game, i play it to do everything in the game, and also even more to just max out and mix special talents with classes as well
hell, i love the fact that i got three soldiers that have Neural shock, singularity and Throw
When i read in game informer that ME2 was coming out and i read about the concept for the sequel
i was floored, because it was excellent
almost everything i could think of in a game, THIS GAME IS GOING TO DO
and i feel so proud to be someone who has been revived back into the gaming community just because of this
thanks BioWare, Your franchise is the best thing to ever happen to me

What got me interested in Mass Effect?
KotOR (first noticed BW) and Jade Empire (became large fan of BW). After those two, I look forward to every BW game.
I agree.
Traditionally I've been a fan of all Bioware games. I love their attention and focus on storyline and characterization. I'm a huge storyline/drama person, so Bioware gives me what I need. After playing KoTOR 2 I was anxiously awaiting a 3rd installment to the franchise.
When years passed with no new news or announcements made on the IP, I reluctantly shelved any thought or expectation of future KoTOR game releases and shifted my attentions to awaiting any game released by my favorite publisher instead.
Not long after Mass Effect 1 was announced I've been eagerly and keenly interested in this new and original IP.
Although I wish they'd return to the multiple controllable party-members format as used in Dragon Age and KoTOR; that's a minor gripe and in no way deminishes my overall enjoyment of the playing experience. I love Bioware games. I'd be interested in seeing their take on an established franchise like Shenmue...

Two years ago I got it for the 360. I saw the IGN review and was impressed with the promise of an "Epic story." I did one main mission, and a ****load of side quests and decided it sucked, and I didn't know what the great reviews were all about. Then like five or so months ago, after I built my gaming PC, it was on discount on steam. I figured I'd give it another shot, as the reviewers clearly saw something in that game.
I breezed through the story with little to no side missions, as that's why I'd abandoned the game before, and fell in love with the story, and especially with the depth of the lore. Such a complex back-story, and humans as an oppressive antagonistic force really intrigued me.
When I saw the early Mass2 trailers, my mind was blown, and as release neared, I starting prepping Sheps. This is the most I've ever anticipated a game, and from the looks of the reviews, it won't let me down.

A friend of mine kept raving on about how great it was and promised he'd finally shut up about it if I checked it out. Honestly, one of the few times I'm glad he kept pestering me.

The idea of a KOTOR Sci fi experience in a totally different universe with cool looking aliens.
Being made by bioware and being a RPG with guns helped too.
I was overseas when it came out and the first thing I did when I came back was play it.
I was simply dumbstruck, expecially when I arrived at the citadel. I would find my courner of the citadel and watch the flying cars roll past and the endless stream of traffic zoom by endless rows of skyscrapers. It was awesome.
If ME2 can replicate and even build on that experience I will be happy.

I've played all of Bioware games since the original Baldur's Gate and they had never disappointed me. I played Mass Effect and Bioware continued to not disappoint me. Easily the best game company out there, really.
