I've been a stalker of this franchise ever since BioWare's original announcement that they were begining development of a sci-fi action RPG based on original IP.

I heard about Mass Effect and that it got good reviews so I rented it from my local vid store a few weeks after it was released. I first chose a Vanguard and I got to the Citidel and I was bored as didn't know how to play or use biotics and also I keept getting lost in the Citidel. So i returned it. In June 09 I started reading reviews and it got me interested in it again. A few weeks later I found a preowned copy which was fairly cheap and I had some spare cash on me so i bought it. Has been my favourite game ever since.

About 6 months before release a buddy of mine sent me a link for the trailer. I thought it was interesting but I wasn't all that interested in it. Fast forward about a year and I was looking for games to add into my gamefly queue. I saw that Mass Effect had received good reviews so I rented it. It took me about a week to get out of the citadel( I thought it was boring as all hell). Then, something happened I all of sudden became very interested in the universe of Mass Effect, the characters, races, and the technology behind everything. I can proudly say that I am now a die hard Mass Effect fan.

KotOR was my first. I played it at a friends house and it blew my ****ing mind. BioWare is part of the reason I want to be a game designer. Mass Effect really caught my attention when I first heard of it and I rented it the first week it came out. Beat it twice before it had to go back. Bought it a month later.

Read a few reviews, asked for it for Christmas, played it, fell in love.

I remember playing KOTOR for the first time on Xbox when it came out...unfortunately I just remember hating it. I dislike turn based RPGs (but love Golden Sun and Pokemon, go figure), so I couldn't get into it.
I just really started getting interested in Mass Effect from the the X05 and X06 demos and Casey always talking about it and how they created this vast universe and how your choices affect the game. All that hooked me in, never looked back! =D

One day, as I innocently perused the Gamespot website, the titled "Mass Effect Sex Scene," video caught my attention!
So I, being a jolly young fellow, thought: "Hoohah lidaloo, best view this vid as I have nothing else to do!" and so I clicked, and it ticked, and I saw, with her dashing wit, the Consort Sha'ira and her Renegade Shep!
So...yeah. After that, I decided to do a bit more research into the game, saw some review scores, and bought a copy a few days later. Never looked back.

I love Science Fiction, I love RPGs and shooters, and there weren't any RPGs for the XBox 360 at the time. And the only games I had were Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2. Both of which came with the Arcade edition XBox360. I saw some of the trailer or demo footage on XPlay so I figured I'd bite, not really expecting any thing. I almost got Assassins Creed instead, I got it later but in hindsight, I'm glad I went with ME first. Since I still play it, and Assassins Creed collects dust.
Then, I was blown away. I only had the standard edition, but it was good enough for me. The story line, the characters, the graphics, even the gameplay (compared to my other 3) was mindblowingly awesome.
Also, I was pretty high my first time playing it. My brain was already baked, Mass Effect melted it.

I've played and owned every other RPG that Bioware was involved with. Baldur's Gate, Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights, NWN: Shadows of the Undrentide, NWN: Hordes of the Underdark, and Jade Empire. Strangely, I just haven't tried KotOR yet. Some of the games I enjoyed, others I didn't, but BioWare has been quality for the most part although Jade Empire left a nasty taste in my mouth and I didn't care for any more BioWare games. It was a fair story but the game just seemed poorly executed.
But if you want to know the truth, I pirated, yeah I did it, Mass Effect out of curiosity back in July. But I was so drawn in that I couldn't put it down. I actually finished the game and wanted more. So I bought it on Steam. Now I own Mass Effect, all square and legal, and I even bought Dragon Age: Origins and pre-ordered ME2. What can I say, BioWare's brought me back into the fold with Mass Effect.

Same reason as most people here, it had the BioWare name. On top of that, it was Sci-Fi, and as a diehard sci-fi fan I just couldn't pass it up.

Well you see the reason I bought it was Bioware since the Baldur Gate days have had subliminal messages telling me you will buy all Bioware rpgs. All kidding aside I have pretty much been playing Bioware rpgs since they have been making them. But the main reason I got ME was just because it was a scifi rpg and there haven't been too many created and I am more of sci fi geek than a fantasy geek.

One of my friends told me about it and said it was pretty good. Didn't really give it any thought at first until he said it was made by Bioware, same guys that made KOTOR. He let me borrow his copy of Mass Effect and I've been hooked ever since.
