The little blurbs they have on all the planets, I've never been interested in sci-fi before, but that feature really appealed to me. Sometimes the little details can leave a big impression.

Actually, RtO did. As it wasn't available during holiday season, I had nothing to do... so I checked what other Bioware games I missed. Saw the add for ME2 stating that you could import chars from ME and got it from Steam... just to see if it was good...
15 minutes later I preordered ME2 CE. I just love this game... sometimes I think it's more fun then DAO, and I usually prefer Fantasy.

Funny story actually, a mate of mine at college asked me if i'd ever played Mass Effect, I said no, he just said ''it amazing go buy it'' - I spotted it about a week later in GameStation on sale so I thought why not, had my head totally blown off when I played it and went to tell my friend that yeah he was right.
Turns out I completely misheard him, he was talking about a different game, he had no idea what Mass Effect was. I asked him what game he was on about, he didn't even remember the conversation. Seriously, the definition of a happy accident.

I am a huge sci-fi geek so once I heard Bioware was doing one it caught my eye. THEN I saw what they did with the dialogue tree/wheel system and knew I had to play it.
That E3 video of Shepard talking to the Salarian bartender and pulling a gun on him and calling him a pissant was incredible. The gameplay looked great and it looked to have a great story.
Then the final product came out, and blew me away. Mass Effect continued to be one of my most played games from then up until now. If the reviews for this game and Biowares history is any indication, I expect to be slapped across the face with the hand of awesome.

A Finnish gaming magazine said it's probably the best game of all time, there are no words, etc. ... so I figured, why not! And I was HOOKED the minute I heard Vigil on the main menu!

I can't really remember. I was reading up on other upcoming games about a year or so before ME1 came out. One day I was on Team Xbox's site, saw an article on the game and decided to read it because it looked "unique".
A few demo clips and several articles later, I decided to follow it to release. '
And here we are, a few days away from the sequel.

What really started it for me was KOTOR. Up to that point, that was the best game I had ever played and the name Bioware stuck with me. I didn't get ME1 right off the bat. It was only after I had found out Bioware had made another RPG for the 360 that I decided to give it a shot, and then ME1 became the best game I had ever played. IMO, ME1 and FO3 are two of the best games I have ever played, and I believe ME2 will surpass both.

I've been a Bioware fan since NWN came out. Bioware + space RPG. I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was right.

When I first heard of Mass Effect, way back when it was first being talked about, I really did not give it a chance. I saw the initial appearance for Shepard, and I saw a volus, and could not see the allure. I'm not sure what it was that made me give the game the cold shoulder. I think I was on some kind of stupid "fantasy is way better than sci-fi" kick.
Then, fast forward like three years, and ME is a few months from release. I was working at Gamestop, then, and we got in a bunch of the promotional discs that had Sci vs. Fi and other such videos about the game on them. They were supposed to be for pre-order only, but I grabbed one anyway to at least give it a shot. I got home, and watched every minute of footage on their twice. I was blown away, and could not get enough. What I was seeing amazed me so much, I pre-ordered the very next day.
Ah, memories.

I saw trailers and pictures of it, saw that it was sci-fi and graphically incredibly impressive (and amazingly, it still holds its own), so I bought it. Simples.

Two things really.
I absolutely loved DA:O to death and wanted to try another one of Bioware's products, with Mass Effect 2 on it's way and many general gaming forums talking about it, I decided to pick up a copy for 5 dollars on steam.
The other thing that got me to buy Mass Effect is, err... Well... I saw a rather explicit picture of Garrus, one that got me rather excited so to speak, and that intrigued me and i guess you could say sealed the deal.
To me it isn't anywhere near as good as DA:O, but I am still loving (almost) every second of it.

BioWare. Nothing says badassery like a BioWare game. I remembered Kotor, as it was the first BioWare game I had played. I have played several franchises since then, but BioWare always made a point to have extremely well developed characters and a story. I went on a search for a game that could really capture my interest compared to your average game, and I turned to BioWare to fill that gap. I had remembered how awesome Kotor was. I just recently picked up ME and was hooked within my first few hours of playing it. I was never really a sci-fi fan until Kotor and ME came along. ME is my new favourite franchise by far, and I am overly excited for ME2 :-)
After playing games like these, other games without in-depth background lore and well thought out dialogue don't hold my interest anymore. Hats off to BioWare and their amazing ability to make a story so interactive and awesome

The very first ever E3 2005 announcement trailer. My jaw was on the floor. The first glimpses of the Volus, varren, and Thresher Maw. It was love at first sight.

My fave from the ME1 soundtrack as well.
Hoping we get some more like it in ME2...
