Quick question on Shadow Strike:

Sometimes, like in 25% of when I use Shadow Strike, an enemy will interupt the Shadow Strike by meleeing you; the Marauders are notorious for this, actually. I even got insta-killed when trying to save a teammate from a Phantom before the animation was even completed. Are these instances completely random, or is there a pattern to when enemies will interupt you and when not?

Huntress is good but you got to use the melee smartly or you will die. You have a target cap of three and anything left alive will light your ass on fire.

Valkyrie/Venom is insanely fun but I haven't run it on Plat without some good players to back me up. Gold is just lulz with it though. Anything in the spawn with shields? Well that's just a free meal basically.

If you're asking which melee build hits the hardest, then the answer is... GI.

If you're asking which melee build plays the best regardless of difficulty, then... GI. D'uh.

However, on platinum, I'd prefer playing a melee paladin. Does better against bosses.

SS works just like charge in that regard - enemies will treat you like you're at your destination the moment you press the button. Given the long animation, this is more noticeable for SS than for charge. What happens is that, if they were firing on you already, chances are they are going to start a melee the moment you press the button. If you're far enough for the animation to take longer than their melee, you're going to get your butt kicked. Even if they didn't know where you are, if the SS is far enough, they'll have time to notice you being next to them (that they can, even if you're cloaked), and then melee you.

So, in short: no way to make it 100% safe, but your best bets are to SS targets that are unaware of you, and that are not too far away.

This is true.  However, using TC before the SS may help to avoid the counter melee.

Not 100% effective.  Especially if you are too close to the enemy you plan to SS.

But if you are further away, they will seek out another target once you TC and then not be setup to melee when you SS.

IMO, melee builds are ineffective on platinum. Mostly because you shadow strike a phantom and a marauder immediately kills you before you can put your sword away. Off host problems

Deerber,

Are you up for some action on Gold/Plat with two Shadows/Gi's? :P

Shadow does a lot of melee damage, but I don't even know how far down she is on the list of melee characters I would prefer to take on Gold, especially offhost.

My favorite is still just my standard Battlemaster running a shotgun with omniblade.  It does more than enough melee damage for mooks once you get in Rage.  Then you have Charge to refill shields.  On Platinum you would want to run a decent shotgun since melee vs Atlas and Praetorians isn't the greatest idea ever.

Shadow

EDIT: I always put 3 points in Electric Slash for crowd control, especially on objectives, and to cancel out of TC.

Also, how do I make my link open in a new window when you click on it? Renaming it seems to make it open in the same window.

If you expect me to do anything good melee wise, gold and I host and play GI, then yes XD. Otherwise let me play paladin.

Today, I did a game versus Collectors with the Claymore Shadow and I melee'd the Scions to death. I kept cloaking, Shadow Striking and melee'ing them to death; really easy to do, actually. You just have to read their animations properly. Praetorians are less predictable, so they get a Shotgun blast to the face. I like her firesword a lot, because I waited to work the armored Targets down to two bars of armor and then a cloaked heavy melee would almost always finish them off.

Alright, buddy - we have a deal! What time? I will make sure to have my GI specced out for max melee.

Uhm, can't guarantee I'll find the time today. Maybe tomorrow could be better... Around 20-21 GMT?

Have not tried it on plat, but the melee Vorcha Engineer with maxed BL, adrenaline III and an Omniblade is fantastic fun for gold.

I like the AIU Melee build, it is the only way to play this character without getting bored.

Turian Havoc, Turian Saboteur, GI, Talon Merc, Krogan Warlord, N7 Paladin, Asari Valkyrie, N7 Shadow and Cabal Vanguard are also really good melee characters.

My melee qfi post is also linked in the resource thread at the top of the forum, along with posts that cover all the turians and all the asari. I most scrub around on gold these days, where nearly any kit can enjoy success focusing on melee. For platiumn, I'd suggest the following,

Paladin with fire shield to set up beautiful 6*6 fire explosions.

GI can put out 4500+ per pulse vs armor which is pretty huge. Even if your mates are reviving you every 5 seconds, you'll still put out unbelievable damage. Learn to pulse the HM quickly. You're golden if a Volus or Geth turret is nearby.

Ghost is probably the best platinum melee kit thanks to overload, high damage, AOE and stimulating packs.

Kogan Sentinel can use melee very effectively on platinum. He usually hits with enough force to stagger brutes, etc which can cause and maintain nice traffic jams of all the boss enemies at choke points. Warlord and Kroger are better if you can avoid syncs.

Ultimately though, the game was never designed around melee. Either in terms or kit design (health OR melee??) or enemy tactics like sync kills or sync attacks, or lag.

On the enemies meleeing you when you SS, I've noticed that sometimes if the lag works out right, you can see your character stand next to the enemy as soon as you cast, but doesn't "officially" uncloak until the animation reaches that point. I'm pretty sure the game transfers your position there before the animation. The enemy then will likely riddle you with a few bullets before using its melee if it had detected you when you SS. It's also much more noticeable than charge because charge makes you temporarily invincible (if I remember right).

What helps is cloaking out of sight/waiting until you have broken their sight on you if you cloaked where they could see you, and then SS. If you take the bonus power use on SS, you'll still be cloaked afterwards. Also, always SS the outer edges of a group. Inside of a group, someone will probably run into where you are/will be and suddenly everyone will gun you down.

Which leads me to this question:

If you take the bonus power use on cloak, do you count as uncloaked when you SS? There's that bit where she dips out of cloak, strikes, and then goes back into cloak. Is she vulnerable during that second she appears out of cloak or does she register as cloaked that entire time?
