ME2 DLC before or after completing game?

Newb here to the Mass Effect universe; I bought the trilogy and after playing through ME1 two times to get a level 60 Shepard, I imported over to ME2 and started this campaign.

I'm noticing a ridiculous amount of DLC on Mass Effect 2 and many have missions associated to them (LotSB, Arrival, Overlord, Kasumi . . that's it right?). However, I'm not interested in paying full price and am hoping to continue playing ME2 for awhile and hope there is a sale and/or bundle I can jump on for these DLCs.

If I play all the way through ME2 story, and finish the final mission, will I be able to go back and then complete the DLCs?
Additionally, if I go back to complete these DLCs post-ME2 ending, will the experience, resources, tech, and story part all import into ME3 or does the import only take parts of the story that the player completes up to & at the end mission?

Thanks for your help

Yes you can play DLC missions after the Suicide Mission.  That is actually true for all side missions.

Story wise, you don't really miss out if you wait till after the SM.  A little dialogue changes.  Zaeed's mission allows you a slightly different choice at the end if you play it after the SM, depending on the path / dialogue.  Main thing with Kasumi or Zaeed is that you don't get to use them as squadmates during the game if you don't have their DLC.

Then there are upgrades or sometimes weapons (eg Locust in Stealing Memory).  LOTSB gives you a respec terminal so you can relevel your squadmates.  Also has a bonus power.

Upgrades-wise, it makes more sense to play the DLC's before the suicide mission (even Arrival, which has 3 upgrades). Lore/story-wise, it doesn't matter the order, but it makes more sense to leave Arrival for the last.

Thanks guys. So it sounds like any upgrades, level-ups, and missions/story decisions made during missions and assignments completed after the SM will import over to Mass Effect 3. I'm playing my first playthrough for ME2 on insanity (lvl 5 import from my level 60 ME1 Shepard), and making a point to knock down as many Xbox achievements so I'm playing through pretty slow. I'm also trying to get every credit, resource, and XP to max 30 and get all upgrades in 1 playthrough. I'm hoping by the time I near the end of ME2, Bioware will offer a package or sale of all their mission-specific DLC, at which point I either buy the on-sale DLC or move on through to ME3. I really want to play the LotSB, Arrival, Overlord, and Kasumi but there's no chance I'm throwing $26 at this DLC.

Yes.

There are a lot of things that you can do after the suicide mission. It all depends on your playthrough.

Unlike the other games (which have a definative ending), in ME2 you end up back on Normandy and can continue to explore galaxy.

I like to roleplay when it comes to DLCs.

I do the Shadow Broker after I've finished all of my regular business on Illium (Samara/Thane acquisition, Miranda's loyalty).

Normandy Crash Site: I do that straight after Horizon.

Firewalker/Overlord: after Suicide Mission

Arrival: after Firewalker/Overlord - last dlc

but you can do them anytime you want, there's no lock-out if you do them too early or too late in the game's progression. except for Shadow Broker because you don't go to Illium until a bit later.

For ME2, I tend to RP in a realistic time for the DLC in the main story.

I typically do Zaeed's recruitment on Omega as the first thing, then get to his mission after I've recruited two squadmembers. I tend to get Kasumi after Horizon, and I do her loyalty mission at some point after romancing Miranda (since I tie her into the story for that DLC via headcanon). I do Project Firewalker early on, usually before Horizon, and after Horizon, I do Project Overlord. I also wait until after I've been to the Citadel and talked to the Council that I go to the Normandy Crash Site. I save the LotSB missions for after I've completed the main game, and Arrival is always the last mission I do in ME2. I finish the game up by inviting Liara up to the Normandy and having the talk about the future war with the Reapers.

Order for me is totally dictated by maximizing resources prior to Horizon. The only exceptions are LotSB and Arrival, which I personally find totally fun, so save them for when I am more fully leveled up. (But I still do all DLC before SM).

I usually do all the recruitment, loyalty, and side missions (except Reaper IFF/Legion loyalty, and Kasumi's Stolen Memory - I like to get Kasumi early on), before the DLC. I do Overlord, LOSB, Arrival, Reaper IFF, Legion's loyalty, then the Suicide Mission. No particular reason, I just like to play it that way. Arrival is also good to do last, as it's a prelude to ME3.

Re: LOSB - it can be an advantage to do it earlier, as you can reset the powers of your squad.

Kasumi's loyalty mission gives you the best SMG in the game and Zaeed's loyalty mission doing it going renegade gives you the flamethrower.

You get the flamethrower on either path. (The firestorm is not a very good weapon, btw.) What changes is which upgrade you get. If you go the paragon route, you get a heavy weapon ammo upgrade. If you go the renegade route, you get an assault rifle upgrade. If I am a Soldier I go the renegade route.

I do most after I beat the campaign. I leave "The Arrival for last". i'll do most of em in this order: project overlord, Normandy crash site, Lair of The Shadow Broker, and Arrival last. I do Kasumi and Zaeed during the campaign (that's how you do their loyalty missions). Idk if I've missed any other DLC but like I said, I do most of em after the campaign.

Late Reply, but since it's here and can be helpful, I'll reply nonetheless...

Yes, you can do them(If you survive, lol)

Experience will change(Experience in-gaming right? Not the Experience Numbers that level you up??). For example, doing Arrival before Suicide Mission, Harbinger will show up in a hologram as the Possessed Collector General, and if done after, in the form of the Real Reaper Harbinger(But it's just cosmetic, the conversation is the same)

In Lair of the Shadow Broker, the Shadow Broker will comment in the Normandy status. For example, after the suicide mission(if the base was destroyed), he will say he will take the Normandy and salvage the rest of the base.

In Zaeed Loyalty mission, you can leave him to die, after the Suicide Mission.

Etc, etc...

The Techs you get don't matter in ME3, but the results of the missions do. Experience, in a certain way, does, since your Imported Character Starting power in ME3 is the same as in ME2.

PS: I reccomend Researching the "Reassign powers" in the Normandy right before importing your Character ,since it can guarantee you a few extra points(2 or 3, IIRC)

Now, for the Order of DLCs, I usually play:

Zaeed Loyalty Mission, right after the first Omega Mission, since you get him on the same planet without requiring a mission, thus you don't return to the ship. You CAN though, but I prefer not.

Then Firewalker (Because of the Hammerhead you'll later use for the Overlord Assignment.. Plus, it's annoying and doesn't require upgrading your Character to effectively completing the mission)

Kasumi comes when you want to talk with the Council and go visit the Citadel. (If you're a SMG User, I reccomend doing this ASAP)

Then, Overlord (Between the story, maybe before Horizon), because Shep who saved David and Destroyed the Collector Base can say "The Illusive Man can fire me if he doesn't like it"... Plot Twist: He deserted.

Lair of the Shadow Broker after Illium Missions.

And Arrival right before importing your save in ME3.

Edit: There is a mod that allows the Arrival Assignment be trigged after the Suicide Mission, since it's labed as "Urgent", but you don't have to complete it till you like it...

Me too although I tend to do things in a different order as I tend to do both Firewalker and Overlord early on before Horizon. Same with the Normandy crash site in fact that's one of the first missions on the game I tend to do along with recruiting Garrus, Zaeed and Mordin mostly because it's all in that same area but I do mix things up from time to time but this is how I normally do them.
With Arrival and Shadow broker it depends on what class I am and by that I mean when I play as a soldier I do them sometimes almost as soon as they become unlocked and I've done Miranda's Loyalty mission as I tend to do hers first as I tend to go to Illium once I've wrapped things up on Horizon. If I'm playing as one of the other classes I tend to wait until after I've done the collector ship so I can pick up and use the bonus weapon edpending on what you pick usually for me it's either the assault rifle or sniper. Mostly because I find having the option of an extra gun useful on those missions and seeing as you don't really get a bonus as a soldier it doesn't matter
