Apparently Rachni are born with drive cores in them. How else do you explain the Queen getting off Noveria?

I imagine the Queen would have escaped on board a transport ship; I mean the Queen from Aliens can hitch a ride on a drop-ship and survive the exposure to vacuum.

As far as 'regular' Rachni space travel is concerned I always assumed that they possessed organic space faring vessels; kinda like the Tyranids of WH40K.

The Rachni aren't truely dead regardless, at least... we cannot be completely sure of it. They found the ME1 queen on some ship full of eggs. That ship probably was the Rachni equivalent of what the Asari councilor means when she says "considerations for the the continuation of civilization must be made' or something like that --> a lifeship somewhere in space hoping to sit out the Reaper war.. or in case of the Rachni, the war with the Krogan.

It would be sound practise to launch more than one of those ships, don't you think?

I hope so, seeing as how the Rachni are one of my favorite alien species in the setting (along with the Elcor, Reapers (Pre-Catalyst), the Geth (Pre-Reaper code upload) and the Collectors).

When I left that Breeder to die I wanted to give Joker the ok to fire on it from orbit as he suggested to be sure it was dead. The thing creeped me out.

I head-cannoned that Legion found her and helped.

I have no doubt that the Reapers could supply another Breeder Queen with ease, so killing the existing one may not have the desired impact anyway.  I also doubt that the Reapers would only use one site to breed Rachni.

Unless I am playing a pure paragon or pure renegade, I leave the queen/breeder to die. Assuming over course that leaving her actually does result in her death. I don't blame her for the havoc her children are creating anymore than you can blame a human husk. I see her as an innocent victim, but one that poses to great a risk. It's obvious that the Reapers can just clone another queen to fuel the source of Rachni soldiers, but I see no reason to sacrifice loyal Krogan warriors to save her.

The risks I see her posing is not limited to the war with the Reapers. When I look back on the trilogy and think about all that we learn about the Rachni and the Rachni wars, I can't help but think that the "sour yellow note" that drove them to attack was not the work of the Reapers. I believe it was the Leviathan. The Reapers implant their ground forces with cybernetics, but there is no sign the Rachni in the Rachni war ever had cybernetics. The Leviathan use their thralls as they find them. Guide their evolution to better suit their needs. Considering what the Leviathan use their thralls for, the Rachni are a perfect fit. They can move to an area and multiply in a matter of weeks to service any need the Leviathan could have. Could be wrong of course, but it's how I see things going down during that war.

With that being said, letting the Rachni survive the Reaper war still leaves the chance the Leviathan will get their tentacles on them again and use them to take over the galaxy. Even if you take pity on her in ME1 and let her go, seeing what can happen in ME3... the risks are too great. Again, unless it's a pure Paragon run I kill the queen both times. I still fight myself on it everytime though. When faced with one of these questions, I ask myself "What is a Spectre's job?" The answer: To preserve galactic stability by whatever means necessary. Exterminating the Rachni does this. Letting an extinct species return goes against everything a Spectre is meant to do. It's a di*k move, but... put her down.

Too bad we can't have Shepard touch on the subject of what to do with/to the Leviathan once the war is over. I'd certainly plant the idea that once their usefulness is spent, they be exterminated. After all, they are a bigger threat to galactic stability than the Rachni, it seems, because if they really wanted to use thralls to cause a ruckus, there's plenty others to choose from, not to mention there's no telling what the hell else lies out there in the galaxy.

I don't know if the Leviathans would be able to take control of the Rachni again, seeing as how they are aware of the 'sour yellow note' that dominated their ancestors. I think that the Leviathans' use of thralls is a lot harder to accomplish if the person being targeted for thralldom is aware of their existence.

I mean why else would the Leviathans not instantly take over Shepard and/or Dr. Bryson the moment Shepard walked into the Lab? Or when Ann Bryson told Shepard to lower the shielding, why did it not grab Shepard or Vega and make them kill each other?

Sure, the Leviathans were able to exert control over Shepard once s/he was on Desponia, but that was within walking/swimming distance of three of the things. I think that being aware of the Leviathans' enthrallment method makes it very difficult for them to assume control via one of their artifacts.

*Of course this is all a theory, and I would be lying if I said that my bias towards the Rachni wasn't coloring my stance on the matter.  ;)

I wouldn't consider the Leviathan as great a threat as the Reapers, but they are definitely a threat that needs handling. Even without the Rachni as foot soldiers they are still too dangerous to be left to their own devices. Who knows how many of those spheres are still out there. Imagine what havoc the Krogan or Turians under the Leviathans control could produce.

Neither the Leviathan nor the Reapers can instant take control. One must spend a certain amount of time around them or their proxies to allow for control. Even Shepard spent alot of time around one sphere or another. The Reapers seem to need implants in to take complete control of their thralls. Leviathan were only able to take control of Shepard when three of them were focused on him.

Considering what we learn about them, and with the Reapers out of the way, the Leviathan are the next biggest threat to galactic stability. They need to be taken out... fast...

Well, I know one mass relay that doesn't need to be repaired. The Leviathans are no threat.

None of it matters. The purpose of that "thing" was to breed for the reapers, that's all. Once the reapers are no longer a threat neither shall it be. We know what planet they're on an if your still unsure we could always use expendable krogan to terminate them and leave the planet to the krogan.

Levi 1: "We have lost connection with the orbs. They may have been destroyed. The human has betrayed us!"

Levi 2: "I told you to make up some kind of sob story rather than put on your high and mighty show. Stupid idiot with your stupid "apex race" talk. Now we're boned.

Levi 3: "Thoroughly boned."

50 years later...

Levi 1: "Well, what do we do now?"

Levi 2: "Well I'm going to see how many of these orbs I can fit in my mouth."

Levi 3: "My record's 3,025!"

Levi 2: "You're going down, b*tch!"
