Mana clash? I wish Combat Tweaks kinda sideways nerfs it and Random Age/ Ravage/ and "Lemmings DAO prepare to die edition" has enemy mages (Arcane warriors mostly yeah those guys with millions of sustainables on that people like to brag about playing for the other team...) use Mana clash on your mages! And I though that multiple Holy Smites KO'ing your mages in the Circle tower was bad...

Some of the tougher enemy mages just resist Mana Clash though I don't remember if that is mod related or not though...

I'm on console without mods, so no idea. :) Usually it's the big big baddies that mana clash isn't useful for. Gaxkhang, for example. Otherwise, it's just one shotting.

@StreetMagic - Is Gaxkang resistant or immune to Mana Clash in consoles? On the PC, Gaxkang can be one-shoted with Mana Clash using Hexes. Even without hexes, it takes out a significant amount of Gaxkang's HP, especially with a buffed up Wynne.

No, not resistant. I just mean he has boss level health. So you'll take him down half at best (probably not quite half. I can't remember). I never used hexes, but I believe it.

Well, it would depend on spellpower. Even without hexes or sustainables, a full MAG mage at say lvl20 can take it down to 1/3 or so. Using Spell Wisp, Spell Might, Arcane Mastery, Shale's Stone Aura, +Spellpower gear, maxing out spirit damage will hit even harder. At the same level, Wynne with Vessel of the Spirit sustained practically seals the deal by taking away more than ~95%. Technically, Wynne can oneshot Gaxkang even without hexes at higher levels, but I know it might not be possible for everyone to be level 24ish by the landsmeet. That's why I mentioned the Hexes, but it's mostly for folks who want to oneshot at lower levels and/or want to see them large purple numbers fly.

Wynne is awesome. If you pull out all the stops and give her the portable spell wisp from Honnleath then she can boost her spellpower to something 230ish by the time of the endgame (lvl 23). That allows Wynne to hex away all elemental resistances from enemies and turn them into maximum weaknesses, from -100% for grunts to -80% for elite bosses. With that and Leliana's Mark of Death, Wynne can hit Archie for 1800+ damage with Entropic Death. Mage Wardens can't get their spellpower higher than 160ish under the same circumstances.

Hexes are absolutely crucial against hard targets, since caster mages have the lowest sustained single-target DPS of all classes even so. Where they shine is peak damage, crowd control and projecting their lowish DPS against large numbers of enemies at the same time. None of that is really helpful against bosses. Without hexes, Wynne's ED against Archie would be less than 300 instead of 1800+.

Affliction Hex can be very useful in Redcliffe, especially during the second phase down in the village. The so-called 'allies' effectively work as meat shields for the enemy, protecting them from AoE spells. That makes it necessary to dispatch the enemies in ones and twos instead of dozens at a time. Casting Affliction Hex on the enemy with the highest life expectancy (e.g. the one you're going to take care of last) can take some of the pain out of fighting with both hands tied behind your back.

If I recall correctly, Lloyd's Ring can serve as a lesser version of the Dawn Ring until it can be claimed during the Battle of Denerim.  And Force Field is my way of keeping Lloyd alive to get it.
