I'm not talking about the ability to have two love interests, but rather how the game will handle choosing between multiple characters. Sometimes the drama of a player character caught between two people can be an interesting twist for a playthrough and other times mistakes or ninjamancesand stuff can crop up.

I remember thinking Mass Effect 1 handled it really well (at least after the first patch) with a very straightforward confrontation scene, it cleared up any accidents or confusion and allowed players who wanted a love triangle story to have one.

Dragon Age 2 was much less clear. Two of the four love interests automatically arbitrarily overrode the others and there was no real warning about what the repercussions of having a fling would be.

I remember Origins was more similar to Mass Effect 1 and had several jealousy dialogues and Mass Effect 2 and 3 were kind of in between. Mass Effect 3 didn't have a whole lot in the way of love triangle content I think but it was pretty clear how it worked with locking romances in at some point (aside from the fact that nobody noticed Kelly).

If nothing else I would prefer a mechanic where you get to choose between paramours rather than one automatically cancelling the other.

I agree. ME3 systems was the worst of all for me, but it's true that I didn't think DA2 system wasn't very good either.

That said, I think I read somewhere that the idea was avoiding love triangle dialogues and spend the resources in more romance content with the chosen LI instead. If that's true, it might be worthy? I'm not sure how I feel about it, though I'm sure it's quite annoying getting locked in a romance you were not pursuing...

I relate to the sentiment of avoiding love triangle content for more romance content, but the problem is how to have the game properly signal that you're locking into a romance.

Well, I can live with the big heart icon...

I want a way to two time two romances in a way that they won't find out until the end.

Oh that would be so evil and fun to do xD

Ahhh but that's just another unreasonable want from another man with one forearm larger than the other.

The heart icon is just about intent to romance a character, but it doesn't tell me when I've locked in, unless you're saying you're locked in at the first flirt? Or the heart icon should only be available for "this locks in the romance"?

Yeah, I agree. I want something closing to Origins than DA2 or ME3. DA2 was the worst because it made 1 comment or so about it than nothing. And you were trapped with Merril if you were balancing her and Isabella and slept with Merril.

Yes, it only shows intention, but that would be enough for me. I mean, I tend to pick flirty dialogue options almost compulsively, but I know the risk  What it's not so cool is when you don't know you're actually flirting, because in your mind you're just being nice. Though I would love it they add another icon for "harmless flirting", as it was suggested in another thread.

Slightly disappointed that this thread wasn't about three mechanics in a love triangle.

Well, they could have you metagame it -- have an icon with a heart and a lock so you know what choosing this path does, and use the heart icon for non-locking paths.

Kinda blatant, of course. But a locked-in romance is an artifact of the design anyway.

I'm fine with that. Meta-game cues don't bother me.

i wouldn`t mind a love triangle with your LI having a lover from the past come back into her/his life and now you have to deal with it .
