Any interest in that? I actually thought the 3D in Crysis 3 was as good as I've played and provided the most use as a realistic heads-up display for a FPS. Is it anything more than a gimmick in a third person shooter? Sony tried pushing 3d pretty hard for a while, but seems to have lost interest like most gamers. What about a 3D next gen port for the first trilogy in 1080p? Huh? Nothing. Might be cool for weapons mods, menu screens, etc. I bet 3D would make this forum topic better....

None at all. At all.
I don't see any use for 3D unless it's a first-person cutscene (which seems wasteful), or you're in full veeyar (virt reality), which is years off.

3D will stay a gimmick until the day that your average gaming system (console or PC) can reliably produce satisfactory 3D performance. That is a long way from here.

I still consider 3D to be a gimmick with a limited niche audience and can't see a big enough group of people to really want something like this to have any considerable content developed for it, in a lot of ways it reminds me of the Kinect for the 360. You will see token content developed for those that want it, but the game will be designed around people not having it.

It would be sad because alot of people (myself included) get headaches from 3d.

But by that time we should have the Oculus Rift or something similar up and running. Isn't 3D just a weak attempt at producing the same experience as such a device would deliver (only much better than 3D could ever be)?
I've never liked 3D and I will definitely not mourn the day they stop trying to make it work for cinema. Haven't actually come across any video games with it, either. May it stay that way
The Oculus Rift has the same limitations as any other 3D headset out there and the people that have used them keep saying the same things, that its heavy and after a while you need to take it off.

Sorry, I just realise now that the OP spoke of a 3D headset too
I'm fairly ignorant about these things, so when I read "3D" I actually thought it was the kind where they require you to put on awkward glasses and things will appear to jump out of the screen. Like in the movies, which is my only exposure to 3D... Apologies for that.

3D would be cool to an extent if done properly but it's probably not worth the resources needed to do 3D
For those getting headaches watching 3D, there are a few types of 3D technology
Passive 3D -- cheapest & most prone to causing massive headaches for a lot of people
Active Shutter 3D -- never had a headache once but it has major drawbacks. -- Must charge batteries often, glasses are far more expensive than passive 3d, pretty rare
Nvidia Stereoscopic 3D -- Never used it but it requires 3 monitors & minimum 2 video cards plus the glasses & receiver so yea expensive
Glassless 3D -- currently in the Nintendo 3DS and prototype TVs looks beautiful & no glasses to wear, but very limited viewing distances/angles, makes it hard for 2+ people to view it at once
VR headsets -- low resolutions per eyeball, heavy, expensive I'd be more interested in one when it starts taking on the shape of one out of Sword Art Online
but without the brain frying microwaves of course.
To be honest I think I have played 2 games with 3D in it, one was a crazy oddball game I can't remember other than it needing you to color everything, the other is I believe Black Ops II and what it did was made it look like the screen was a window giving you a better view of depth perception.
Hope this helped ![]()

Another thing about OR is that you only get the most out of it if the game is played from a first person perspective, e.g. Half-life, Halo, Titanfall, Amnesia: The dark descent, Skyrim etc. It won't it won't have the same effect with third person perspectives and strategy games along with the motion sickness issue. The Oculus Rift has the same limitations as any other 3D headset out there and the people that have used them keep saying the same things, that its heavy and after a while you need to take it off.
