I want more uncommon weapons as:

- chains
- whips
- harps
- flutes
- guitars
- talisman cards
- fans
- orbs
- claws
- brushes
- scrolls

Be creative and open your mind to imagine cool moves for them.

A chakram is a bladed frisbee.

A chain/whip/rope dart. these are useless in real combat.

scrolls, books, tomes. I would on'y except these being shown in certain spell animations.

musical instruments aren't weapons. the closest instruments I can think of to that effect were bagpipes which were used to instill fear in the hearts of invaders.

an orb is a glorified baseball.

brushes, fans, talisman cards. this is not dynasty warriors. enough said.

Claws are extremely impractical. no defense whatsoever.

I dare anyone else to come up with a list. out side of polearms and crossbows I doubt anything you throw at me is a good idea.

Ok, so I'd like 9 primarily melee option sets that break down into slashing, piercing, and more blunt damage types (crit, anti-armor, higher base damage), and three ranged weapons that have their own range modifiers and limits, each with their own skill trees and animation sets.

Long weapons:

1. spear 2. poleaxe 3. staff / fighting monk style

Roguelike/mobility

4. main (rapier) & gauche 5. dual tomahawks/hatchets/hand axes 6. chain blade / rope dart

Close melee

7. longsword/greatsword (2h style) 8. short sword/mace/morning star & shield (think fighting in line, gladius etc.) 9. heavy melee (maul/great axe etc.)

Ranged

10. longbow- highest range/slowest/weak melee 11. crossbow- medium class/fast but weaker repeater and strong/accurate but slower single shot 12. throwing knives- extended short range and best melee

Rope dart like ability already seen in gameplay vids. All close melee weapons have already shown up, and axes as well. Short and long bows practically guaranteed ,crossbones for Inquisitor, however. Who knows.

Would not mind seeing a Qunari collaboration to make a powder weapon, ie gun of some sort. They have gunpowner, would just be a matter of someone clever getting their hands on it.

Something like this?

Don't really see it as practical, but it would still be cool maybe for npcs, not for inquisitor.

Its has the power to insta-kill somebody wearing the heaviest plate. Just shoot it and then drop it and continue the battle with your trusty sword.

I was talking to be a kind of magical weapons.

And you asking about useful weapons with polearms and crossbows?

Polearms are big and it depending of weight keeps the user slow.
And crossbows are slow to recharge  need a long distance to be practice.

Ideal weapon for the Rogue playstyle, then.

I want gauntlet, cestus, and knuckle duster type weapons. Something to help me punch the ever loving crap out of my enemies.

Like this,

Hourglass-gauntlets.jpg

Or maybe these, they seem like they could block a sword or two,

HJRK_A_56_-_Gauntlets_of_Maximilian_I,_c

Or these, now this looks like it could shred someones face up bad.

Actually, wouldn't that make crossbows an excellent weapon for say someone like an Artificer Rogue? After all compared to standard bows, the crossbow is the supreme defensive weapon with long range and immense piercing and stopping power (so good in fact they were banned from the battlefield). So assuming the enemy AI is smart enough to be tricked, an Artificer could set some decoy traps to make enemies wary of trying to approach him/her and then use the resulting leverage to dish out some good old crossbow sniping mayhem.

Same results can be achieved with proper teamwork to keep enemies occupied whilst a crossbow user is dealing out high spike damage at priority targets for example.

It would also add depth to weaponstyle balance, as say a longbow would have the same range compared to a crossbow, slightly less power, less penetration (if there's a dedicated armor vs health system in DAI for example) but higher rate of fire and the shortbow with even less range, again less power, less penetration, but much higher rate of fire and say the ability to fire on the move whereas a longbow and crossbow user would have to pause movement to aim and shoot.

I despise how Amalur turned Chakrams into the new whips. I would rather have flashy magical gauntlets that shoot weak bolts of magic than have magical chakrams that return to the thrower. Why don't we just get magical multipurpose boomerangs change our names to Ty and have an australian accent?

and why is everyone obsessed with mages having more weapons. their thing is spells. their spells are way flashier than anything the warrior or rogues had.

The warrior ability looks like a basic rope dart release now, which is good, but I'd love to see it as a crowd control type weapon class, with disabling talents at longer range than other melee. Combine chain fighting with rope dart. Right now as of DA2, models of most of the melee types I'd like to see are in the game other than polearms, chain/rope, and rapiers, but they're not really given distinct styles and skills, just 2h, 1h&s, bow, and dw stabby. I want to see them divided into distinct disciplines with different gameplay, and then extend the repertoire a bit beyond that, effectively double our weapon class options.

Also, I didn't distinguish any mage weapon class, if you notice, because I'd prefer mages to also be able to train, use, and specialize in any weapon class, and warriors to really use staves, for instance. I figure any class should at least be competent in a particular weapon class of your choice, even if it doesn't benefit from other class trees as much. More fun to me, more options.

I'd like an english bill polearm, they just look cruel, or maybe a vouge. It is kind of strange to think that most fantasy games don't involve polearms/spears, considering they were probably the most used and most effective weapon for a large part of history.

What about a Ghost Staff you could summon and not look like a ruddy obvious Mage all the time!

Something mystical and kind of glowing yet see through.

I would actually be delighted at the chance to give a bard-type rogue a set of enchanted bagpipes. Or a giant war drum or something.

But bard's not a specialization available for this game and it looks like the only songbird out of out advisors/companions is Leliana, so there's really no point to putting either thing in.

If I could march around the battlefield in a full scottish get-up as a Qunari I would enter indentured servitude for Bioware.

Well since no one mentioned them... Indian Katars? Could be used for rogues. Extreme offensive capabilities, weak defense.

Except the longbow didn't have less penetration, it had more, and a greater range, the down side was training, you could train a crossbowman in a week or 2, you had to start a long bowman as a teenager, to build the muscle mass necessary to draw a full weight war bow.   For example some of the bows taken of the wreck of the mary rose had a 185lb draw @ 30inches.  That is insane compared to a modern bow.   Their where crossbows that went higher than that, but you are talking a rate of fire measured in minutes per shot.
