Premise for season 3 is great. Put all the best characters on a boat. More shows should take up this philosophy.

 

Lacey was short lived. Which is a shame.

 

Gold and Regina seem to have been out-douched by the new antagonists. But then both of them seem to genuinely trying to do better now. (after going back and forth for some time). Not sure how I feel about that.

 

Hook definitely turned out as a great character. Gonna keep an eye on Pan (That was a creepy retelling).

Time is gonna be filled by going through episodes. Like I said before, ABC is showing all the episodes starting from the first, one a day, starting July 1st.

 

Then you have Earthbound and Chewin who recently started watching the show, or Isi who kinda has to start. Honestly, Isi may as well wait for the ABC airings leading up to the 4th season.

Sorry guys, I should have popped my head in sooner to say something but its been a rough week for me and I've sort of been avoiding the forums to let my brain air out a bit. I'll be starting it this upcoming weekend (which is also a long weekend for me) so expect to hear some noises from me soon. I was planning on watching OitNB season 2 first but I feel bad for not getting around to this yet. I didn't forget mine and LP's deal and once I start the show I won't be watching much else.

Ok, watched up to Episode 9 or so and I must admit that the show has genuinely surprised me.

 

I hadn't heard much about the show, other than it features fairy tale characters trapped in a modern day town struggling with memoirs of their past lives. That is the basic premise and I was expecting that being more or less the show, without really any much true depth put into it. Well I am glad I was proven wrong. The show manages through a solid way to incorporate both the story perspectives of both the real world and the "fairy tale" one, giving each specific character(s) in the specific episode it centers on to give (further) characterization and development to them, as well as managing to follow the main focus point of the story. 

 

While I don't find the general story or the stories in the Enchanted Forest that intriguing (though I do like the lack of iterations to each fairy tale character) I think the shows strongest points is its characters and actors. Emma Swan is quite a well-rounded character whose hard life correlates well with her actions and thinking. Almost each individual character are in core the same character in both 'lives' but still different in certain aspects that reflects well with a medieval and modern time period for said characters, be it by mere personalization or occupation, For example, Graham being a lonesome and somewhat brutal hunter in his Enchanted Forest life but is a Sheriff with legal official responsibility in his other. 

 

And of course there is Rumpelstiltskin and Regina. I will just outright say it that i frikkin love these two characters! Rumpel and the Mr.Gold persona is a combination that works in such a perfect manner. You have the enchanted persona of him as the twisted Dark One who is excessively energetic and wily and the modern day persona as the calm pawn shop owner Mr. Gold who in contrast is more collected and subtle in his approach. Each persona is so strikingly different yet similar in many ways and every time either of them is in the scene I get all giddy. Not simply is he fun to watch, but he is actually a fully realized character with motivations of his own. His origin story of how he became to be the Dark One is sad but perfectly "in narrative", and I really love his "All magic comes with a price" quote. At first I saw it as what it was in the Enchanted Forest, but it coveys very well into Storybrook as well, everything you do in life has consequences, there are no shortcuts. This is portrayed greatly with the real life problems the characters in the show struggle with and is a feature I truly like.  Oh and not to forget, Robert Carlyle does a magnificent job portraying both Rumple and Mr. Gold.

Regina is also someone I quite quickly grew to like. Her manipulative behavior as the mayor in Storybrook is something I truly love to witness and how it is addressed through her as a character who simply wants to be in control but beloved and fulfilling her lust for revenge is intriguing. Plus, Lana Parrilla both looks and acts the part in great fashion.

 

I noticed that this show is created by the same guys who did Lost, and it is very apparent. Once Upon a Time's similar themes of time operating strangely, lives extending unexpectedly, and people yearning for home or not being who they seem to be, mirrors that of Lost. I, like many others, like these elements in story telling and hopefully Once can manage in fulfilling as the episodes go and not taking a similar path as Lost did. 

 

So far I have enjoyed the show, hopefully it will be follow this path.
