All mage companions should have access to group heal

I'd prefer it if all 3 of the mage companions are given access to the group heal spell as opposed to just giving it to a designated healer character.  It would make it much easier for the player to constuct a balanced party with their favorite personalities.

My first character is rarely a healing mage so in DA2 I had to take Anders everywhere I went to keep my party from dropping.  I also ended up killing him and while I was able to slide Bethany into his spot for the standard heal I had no group heal.  The final battle didn't end up being all that difficult but speaking as someone who likes to fancy himself a strategic gamer it would've been nice to have that base covered and be able to role play as I liked.

DA:I will not have Spirit Healer spec. If there is a group heal spell, it seems likely that everybody will have access to it.

//EDIT: As a note, the mage specs are Knight Enchanter, Rift Mage, and Necromancer. Knight Enchanter's description has it something like Arcane Warrior. We do not know much about Rift Mage or Necromancer at this time.

I agree with you in the DA2 part. Heals were really important because you couldnt spam potions due to CD, so having 1 heal would mean being able to heal twice as fast your tank. It was really huge.

However, in DAI this no longer applies much, since we have been told that we wont be able to heal between battles. To make the exploration experience more real and inmersive.

I quite like that, but I cant imagine how that would be accomplished while being able to heal in battles too. Because if we are able to heal during combat, and not out of it, that would end up in us killing all mobs except for 1, and then healing everybody, and then killing the last mob. (If we want to minmax)

And that would be totally boring.

So I dont know, we'll have to see how it goes...

PS: I am fond of relying on shields and protections, and heal only through potions that are really rare outside your fort.

Sometimes I wish you could just buy spells, instead of being stuck with the one healer you have access to.

It's doubtful there's going to be a group heal spell in DA:I anyway.

The health and healing system is being overhauled - health doesn't recover automatically, and potions are rarer.

It'd hardly make sense to let mages heal everyone from an infinitely-regenerating mana pool in the middle of battle, given those changes.

'Worse' still I know in Origins that Wynne/ Morrigan would often go to town casting spells on the group when we were out of combat so in theory even after you killed all the baddies in a group your mage should be able to still heal you on thier own, if not then you can have them heal you, when you leave combat.  If not that seems like a really bizarre restriction.  What, you can only heal someone when your life is in danger and people are shooting arrows at you or trying to stab you?  I thought distractions made magic harder and not easier?

That's the main reason I'm really hoping there is a Group Heal, in DA2 I rarely had enough potions to go around as it was, its going to be worse for me in this game.

They are downplaying mage heals in DAI quite a bit, according to various interviews. The whole no healing outside of combat and limit potion carrying capacity mechanics would be rather useless if a mage could just heal every up to max (this either means that mana also doesn't regenerate outside of combat [not good in my opinion since that severely limits the usefulness of mages and means they will just be sitting there through some of the 'filler' fights so I can save their mana for tougher encounters, and that to me doesn't feel very good] or the heals mages get will be limited in scope [i.e. can't heal past 70% max health, or companions sustain injuries when they fall similiar to DA2 and this can't be healed by a mage at all].

So all-in-all hoping for a 'healer' type character may just be wishful thinking.

My guess is healing will be a thing with mages just one that costs a lot of mana which will discourage people from being able to use it all the time.  Or, maybe a long regeneration arc.

well spirit healer is gone. So maybe group heal/revive  are in the creation tree...
