Can someone please explain what a "tank" is.

I'm not familiar with the term.

A Tank is a party member meant to have the ability to draw the attention of as many hostile enemies as he or she can away for your other party members. He is also capable of surviving a lot of damage from anything, from bosses to the mobs he aggros.

Yup. I've often thought 'tank' is a slightly misleading term since it suggests great offensive powers. But I suppose 'decoy punchbag' doesn't roll off the tongue so well.
