I think it going like DA 2 and orgins where you kill baddies get and u get a chance to loot some gear at the level of said enemies and if you kill a boss enemy they would drop their given loot but I believe the devs said at pax prime maybe (the one which they showed the first gameplay and said qunari were a playable race )
In one the panels they said something like you could customize your armor in how it look and u could a really good piece that look ugly to look like a nice cool looking one which terrible stats I think it has been a while sinceand it might be just interpting it in my mind

I would like a system where loot was more random, vice predictable or static set items.

That makes loot fun and crafting worthwhile if you just need a specific sort of item.

OTOH, I kinda dislike finding the best gear near the conclusion; no real chance to use it all except for the last battle. My suggestion is having the first Chapter leading us to finding or creating said gear, spending the remaining gameplay watching it used and possibly becoming enhanced and upgraded.

I prefer to find individual good gear pieces as the game progresses (preferably in a way that allows me to pick which ones I want to go after first) so that I don't really have a complete Supreme Gear Set until late-game.  Of course, this is predicated on a system where Top End gear is only about 20% better than Baby Gear instead of one where Top End gear is 10,000% better.  I've always preferred the gradual accumulation of interesting and unique gear making you more awesome than "yay, all numbers now x2!" every 3 minutes.
